Mike

I have been asking the question in other threads...Can we borrow the neat new features that most of the recent DLC have added to the "tons" of older DLC we already have in our asset collections?

I am speaking of "shining" Head lights and Ditch lights, Step lights, Interior Cab lighting, Back-lited Number Boards, Back-lited Instruments and Dials, animated rotating roof fan blades and such things that really add realism and immersion to the locomotives.

I wonder if anyone has actually asked RSC about why it started using only compiled lua?

Who put the QD consists together? Why is there only one SD40 to pull 40 and 60 cars when all the standard scenarios have at least 2?

RWTools has a function to build these consists if you would like to make more. 40 cars isn't too much for an sd40, at work we get our 100 car unit train brought in usually with 1 SD40-2W and we have a 2.8% grade 1 mile from the yard.

Not to go off topic, but don't railroads have a table of what power to add to a consist of a certain tonnage?

They're more concerned with braking, I think you'll find.

I've no idea what any of this means, by the way. :D

You might also be thinking of the graphs developed by locomotive builders that typically depict tractive effort against speed for a given locomotive (or diesel unit) on a given grade. I don't happen to have any handy for diesel units, but I do have a few for steam locomotives. PM me if you want more information.

No, I was referring to a chart similar to what hertsbob posted. I was hoping it would have been more generic, but now that I think about it, it does make sense that each area have its own power needs.

If you have the time, I highly recommended you read this. It goes on to explain how tractive effort, horsepower, and grades intermingle with one another. This is not a chart, but with this knowledge one could create a chart for their intended route with whatever locomotive they want.

Excellent source! Consider it bookmarked.

Update:
HAH! I remember this site now! Wow, I completely forgot about it and lost it in all the other bookmark noise. Thank you again for reuniting me with a great source of info.

I thought it was out already as I have the United Way one as do many others.

Does your model actually have the United Way banners on either side? Mine doesn't, yet, but according to RSC they will be added.

I have both with and without the United Way banners. The United Way 3300 currently only shows in QD.
