This route looks very promising. Hoping some new repaints come from that PA!

Ertwander wrote:Just found out at the "American Rails" website, there was through traffic. Does anyone know how this was handled? Did they change the train at Springfield? Or just the locos and some cars, while others were through cars? Did they run complete NH trains on the B&A mainline or NYC trains on the Springfield line? Maybe this was varying for the individual trains? According to the timetable, the length of stay at Springfield was quite different.

A good catch that! I've checked my research materials for the NH and couldn't find anything about NH and B&A/NYC running a joint passenger train or through coaches. But that could easily be a case of missing information. I've looked at a couple of NH timetables for New York - Hartford - Worcester - Boston (table 3) and they all state "change trains" at Springfield. I know that the NH cooperated with B&M and PRR for long distance services across New England and to Washington and Philadelphia, but I don't remember reading about a cooperation with NYC. If somebody knows more about this please tell us. :)

One other related thing that I re-discovered when looking at my timetable collection is that there were through trains from NH to B&M via Springfield. The 1955 PTT lists two of them, #66/77 "The White Mountains" and #168/733 "The Montrealer". Given the track layout of Springfield USta, I guess these swapped engines (NH/B&M) and direction at the station. There are also a couple of local trains that carried through coaches between NH and B&M via Springfield.

Cheers,
Michael

The only other train I can think of is the Bar Harbor Express, but the New Haven cut their Boston and Albany connection early (1910s perhaps?) and eventually just used a purely NH routing to Worcester, rather than handing it off at Springfield to reach the B&M connection in Worcester.

Something else: is there a NYC livery for the Alco S2 around? I didn´t find any in the library or with the search function. Nor did i with google.
I think it would fit into this route, NYC got 77 of these, and the time frame would be right as well.

That's a pretty simple paint job. I'll whip one of them up.

The B&A one will be included with the upcoming route. Here is a temporary link to the NYC S2 that I did today.

The little switcher included in the DLC is a HH-series ALCO, not an S2. The HH series, built throughout the 1930s, was one of the earliest successful diesels on American rails and the S-series' predecessor.

Thank you Michael. Looking again at the pictures I realise that the rear view of an HH is very like the S series and that's my excuse :D
Great to have a route where the HH is in date, it's a lovely model to drive.

Living as I do on the B&A Highland Branch (now erroneously termed the "Green Line D branch"), and taking it every work day to and from work before I retired, I am positively thrilled that all those GTrax guys have gotten together to produce this route.

And being born in the Truman administration I know a thing or two about what constitutes the look and feel of a route that is an early 60's late 50's route, and from what I can see of the screenshots these gentlemen have hit the nail on the head. B&A and Alcos and PA's, oh my!

There will be no nitpicking from me on whether the Pru is relevant or not to the time period, or any of the other supposed anomalies, as what I'm looking for is verisimilitude, not rivet counting. In other words, the forest, not the trees. So, long story short, I'll be buying this on day 1.

I'm assuming that this will be a Steam route ... correct?
