Are these steerable trucks actually going to visually and functionally pivot .....or are they just a static visual representation of them? !**conf**!

I doubt it. I never even knew the real ones did that. What curve would be tight enough to make them bend?

It's subtle movement, not drastic. The best instances to see them move is on very twisty turned, speed-restricted branch lines. Also in yards with switches that have a very sharp, speed restricted angle of attack. Because they turn so sharply in such a short distance, axle movement is more exaggerated than normal.

Mainlines tend to have rails that turn with a much more subtle angle of attack in order to maintain a higher average track speed. Truck pivoting is much harder to notice in those instances. I guess the more correct term in this case is axle pivoting.

I'm not the one here to be discussing locomotive mechanics, but it seems to me I read that the advantage of steerable trucks is to better align the wheels with the rail to increase traction. To me this explained why they are used primarily on winding grades such as Alleghany (and Allegheny in MD/PA) subs. ???

You are correct as well. The steerable trucks keep the axle's driving in the direction of the rail rather than at an angle of attack that drives the flanges of the outer axles into the rail head. This reduces wear on the rail head and reduces tractive effort losses in curves.

Horseshoe curve is NS territory, and I don't believe they used it at any time.

It'll be like the NS heritage units; We'll get locos with no current routes to use them on. We can only hope for one in the future !!*ok*!!
