That D&RGW’s L131 2-8-8-2 Is pretty close to the ten WP 2-8-8-2 mallet´s that ran across the FRC up to Winnemucca, which were built by Baldwin during the 30s.

I was just about to point out that the pictures published so far only show the area within 10 miles of the pass. The DTG article says that the route is from Minturn, the northern end of the old freeware route, to Buena Vista. This is less than half of the freeware route.
I don't think that's particularly bad at the moment if it's well built. At least the section to Leadville is included.
Of course, it would be very nice if Milepost extended the route one day - to the west or east through the Royal Gorge to Pueblo.
