I'll gladly pay $20 for this add-on! !*YAAA*!

With all factors considered: production software, computer, utilities, learning LUA, scripting, collecting sound samples, audio editing, skinning, photoshop skills, 3d modeling skills, measurements, research, debugging, ...... etc., I figure this one model would cost me $8,237.17 to make myself! Oh, and that places no value on my time and also assumes I like doing it.
I think I could learn all of the skills and do a decent job on this model after about 3 years of daily work on it.
Ooops, I forgot about the $3.57 a gallon for gas, depreciation, insurance and general maintenance for my car expenses on the field trips too! Add another $457.22 to the total.

So, if I value my time at minimum wage, add in the above expenses (I'll even through in the overhead for my office space for free, which I shouldn't), The add-on would only cost me $14,231.15 and three years to do myself!

Here's my $20 for a job well done RSC. !*cheers*!

!!howdy!!

Glad to see someone who thinks of all the behind the scenes costs :) Development software is expensive, time is expensive, and so on.

I always look at it compared to how much it would cost for some other form of entertainment. If it costs me $14 (call it $20 with popcorn and a soda!) to go see some 90 minute Hollywood crapfest, then I only need to get 1.5-2 hours of enjoyment out of the add-on in my lifetime to break even ;) Any time spent with it after that break even point is free entertainment.
Looking forward to this to supplement the fantastic route.

Another great point as to the value of a twenty buck add-on for TS. !!*ok*!!

I've said this several times. Went out with customers, spent $25.00 for lunch. A burger and a few beers long gone. RW DLC available at my convenience when I want to run some fine locomotives.
Over and over. !*cheers*!

All the whiners over the 20 dollar or less addon have obviously not come from Model Railroading..... For a complete Surfliner train, You'd pay 250 for Sound/DCC equipped F59PHI, 50 dollars a car (not including lighting if you wanted it), 150 for the cab car to be equipped with a light+sound decoder.

Maybe on great negotiating at a swap meet. Those things are far more pricy on retail

It's still hard for a guy who moved on from toy trains to railroading in the virtual world to understand any real similarity. I still stick with the old adage that there is no free lunch. If you buy the basic game that is what you bought. Enjoy it. If you have a opportunity to get some additional stuff because another hobbyist puts something out there for free well then enjoy.

If people put things out there for sale then decide if you want to buy them because they have value to you or decide they don't and not buy them.

Simple. End of story.

This is how I rationalize it. I've spent somewhere in the range of $150 (all on sale, I actually own almost $450 worth) on the game and DLC over the last year and a half, but I've gotten close to 1500 hours worth of entertainment from it. Phenomenally good value, really.

No place to run them but these would be nice.
If RSC did the route from Stockton to Santa Clara, and tee'd in at Fremont with the Irvington line to the Coast Line up through Oakland and Jack London Square...
Epic Freight, Amtrak Coast Starlight, ACE Train, Amtrak Capitol Corridor.
Epic scenery through Niles Canyon, Niles, Pleasanton, Livermore...
