I am kinda interested in the physics used for this engine. I have been seeing 130's and now even 140. The fastest this engine ever went was 125.88, and that speed caused a major problem with her running gear. Anybody care to post some of the specs from the sim file?

I only hit that for a couple of seconds after that I backed off to 120 because of the stoker not keeping up with the speed. A few times over 130+ but that's it. There is one guy I know that hit 146 but I don't think he had his carriages behind him.

MaxSpeed: 160
MaxPower: 2100
MaxForce: 37

Those control the speed.

Just as I figured, exaggerated values.

I think the units for speed are km per hour, so 160 is about 100mph, but in any case, the simulator doesn't actually enforce that limit strictly. The Connie's blueprint has a speed limit of 80 (about 50mph) but it can go faster than that downhill.

What's of more interest are the files that have the power versus speed and tractive effort versus speed curves, to see how they tail off.

Its in mph not Kph. I don't really know how to open the speed vs tractive effort so I don't know.

OK, slight confusion ... I thought you meant this field in the engine blueprint where it's in kph (this example is from the Connie):

There's another field in the engine simulation blueprint, which is in mph (you were referring to this one):

ScreenShot004.jpg

Those curves are specified in csv files usually called something like TractiveEffortLinearVSSpeed.csv and TractiveEffortVSCutoff.csv (but the designers can call them what they like), referenced in these fields in the engine sim blueprint:

When the blueprint is exported, those files are changed from csv files into xml files but with the .dcsv extension. You can open and read them as xml.

Could someone make a whistle out of this? I can't get the loop right.
A4 Whistle.wma

A4 Whistle.mp3

I recorded it from here.

Gah, 140 mph held for 5 seconds then all the rods broke xD

Seriously my last two attempts were 135 mph I haven't hit 140 again maybe it was just luck.

I find this engine too easy to manual fire. !!*ok*!!

Just did a video on it.

So....when we build the PRR S1, we can use its theoretical speed of 152.7 MPH, or something like that. Was only ever tested to 127.1, but it was balanced up to 160
