On a side note, did UP ever consider nuclear powered locomotives?

Bombs on wheels? That would have to be a serious ROI to get the brass on board.

Off the charts incredible!

Nuclear locomotives were considered way back when FYI.

UP would surely be their first customer.

While DTG are to be commended for producing something new and interesting for the next version, (I used to enjoy the MSTS version) this is also where they let themselves down.

Locomotives are only part of the overall railroad landscape; more importantly, its having somewhere apropriate to run and appropriate rolling stock to pull. SH is 60 years oul of date. If Michael & Bob can get down 150 miles of New Haven yard trackage for the VNHRR project, surely DTG can produce an era apropriate route for their DLC. I bought Mikes beautiful 844, to support Mike, but havent run it more than about 20 mins because I feel that the modern SH just doesnt do it justice. There doesnt even appear to be era apropriate rolling stock. This is why the VNHRR and RWA (and HSC to an extent) are the real deal, because they are a complete package - route, infrustructure & rolling stock. !!*ok*!!

I know some people are more than happy to run anything and everything together, just not me....

Hope I am proved wrong, but I doubt it *!!wink!!*

My only problem with the turbine powered trains is their sound. Their constant high pitched whine lacks the aural bass note punch of diesels and steam's chug. Just watch a video of a turbine powered tractor pull and it's pretty boring sounding compared to the piston powdered ones.

Here's the sound of a modern 11,100hp GTEL... the Russian GT1-001....

That aside.... this is a great addition to UP's heritage lineage (Big Boy, DDA40X, U50C, etc) of old school high horsepower behemoths. !!*ok*!!

I'm confused, as I most often am. Other than a few "higher detail" screenshots, where is it in this article that says we are getting an updated Sherman Hill? All I see is the new GTEL in the TS2016 update.

Some folks read between the lines, some read around the lines, others just make up things as they go along. It all makes for harmless entertainment. !!jabber!!
