The only difference between models that I know of are the class lights.

On an SD7, the class lights are located closer to the center on the hood ends and may be on what look like access panels:

On the SD9, the class lights are more like a GP9, welded into the hood ends and farther out to the corners of the ends:

There are probably other differences but this is easy to spot. The later SD9s probably have a control stand similar to Reppo's GP20.

Who is making this? The cab doesn't look like Michael's.

I've always had a soft spot for the SD9. She was the prize of my HO fleet, long ago.

I hope they don't reuse the GP9 horn. Hopefully they get a bit creative here and find some good horn recordings.

The thing is with DTG, they can't get sounds off the internet like we can, many sound authors here got their sounds off a youtube video but they can't do that, since they are selling the sounds afterwards as part of the product. DTG has to either go record there own sounds, make new ones based off sounds they already have; which is what it is in this case, they modified the GP9 horn, or buy ownership of sounds files from a 3rd party, so making new sounds is usually a hard thing for them to do. It's not the same GP9 horn but it is similar, and in my opinion better.

And it's so easy to install any of the near endless supply of third party horns available right here.

I know it's easy to do but would be easier if the horns were already good.

The class lights for a SD7 are on a flat removable panel, the SD9 class lights are on raised blisters.

According to the description, it has "advanced brake controls", which somehow are absent from the GP9.

LOL, the manual states the weight is unknown; this site (http://www.thedieselshop.us/Data%20EMD%20SD9.HTML) states the locomotive weighs in at 360000 pounds, translated to 180 tons! DTG better do their research.
