The only thing I don't understand is economical value of this line.
Engineering work is so massive - a lot of cuts though rocks, bridges, tunnels, viaducts.
Mallaig is quite small town, and station doesn't look like it has enough industry to generate a lot of bulk freight.
In modern times, it would be justified if Mallaig had big oil or coal terminal or aluminium plant, or something like that.
Was manpower so cheap in Scotland in the end of 19 century?
