Some of us will be pleased to learn that Dovetail has rereleased the DDA40X locomotive. Those of us who purchased this engine oh so long a go will find that our purchased has been upgraded with the new version of this engine. Now we are about to find out if they really fixed this beast.

What they said! !!*ok*!!
I just ran "Big Jack's Climb" scenario again and I can now achieve a constant speed that varies with grade, from 10.9 MPH on 1.8% to 8.7 MPH on 2.3%. With the old model it wouldn't climb the grade at all without wheel slip, and the sander on. This appears more realistic to me. I also ran the numbers from the link Ericmopar provided:

Check this out. (Warning, may make brain explode!)
http://www.alkrug.vcn.com/rrfacts/hp_te.htm

And yes, it did make my brain explode. !*hp*!
But according to these formulas, I *should* achieve 15 MPH on a 2.3% grade, assuming my estimates of the train's weight in the sim are anywhere near accurate (no guarantees there... !*roll-laugh*! ). But the improvements are very noticeable and appreciated.
The model itself is also improved, it is much more framerate-friendly than the old one, and that makes my laptop very happy. I'm getting 24 FPS vs. less than 10 on the old one in SanBar yard.
Overall I give this a !!*ok*!! !!*ok*!! !!*ok*!!

I saw in one of the demo videos, when you open the cab doors the engine sound gets louder. I thought that was super cool.

Yup, and open the windows to get a windy surprise. It adds a whole 'nother immersion factor in my opinion.

I had bought the original from the DTM site so Steam didn't acknowledge that purchase. I got in touch with Czear, and he gave me the new version. The only thing is I only have the Type 01 variation, not the other two. I'm wondering because I didn't purchase the steam version is why I don't have them. I appreciate the new version none the less.

If anyone would like to see the DDA40X in action on TS. When I like a locomotive a lot I tend to to make longer videos.

I still don't think it should matter if you didn't ever had the Steam version to begin with or not, Walter. I never did, but got the 2012 update by e mail, then this update from Steam. Did Cesar give you this new one straight out, or the 2012 version then let Steam update it? Remember, as I said in my other post, I did kinda have to do a song-and-dance to get all three versions to show, and in all the right places. Clear blueprint, verify, reboot PC.

You will only see the three versions in QD or in free roam, not on Sherman Hill (Career only). At least you got it, go play and enjoy. And, open the doors and windows. !!*ok*!!

Czear sent me the files. I've asked him if I can get all three versions, no response yet.

Edit; Because I never bought Steam version I'm only entitled to Type01 as per RSC agreement.

But that's what confuses me. I never bought the Steam version, yet I have all three "new" versions. !*don-know!* Cesar should have a good solution for you.

Great video demo!

The engine sounds accuracy, the wind noise, the muffled cab isolation and the variable engine sound via the cab doors has my vote for best overall for an RSC Steam DLC loco release..... or re-release! Kudos to you BNSF dude! **!!bow!!**

The video was also a reminder that the SD45's traction motor whine is too loud. That and it's eventual dominance in the cab view is still waiting for a fix. *!sad!*

Is anyone else having the issue where the keyboard shortcut for the throttle isn't working?

Simple or Expert controls? I use Expert and the "A" and "D" keys work just fine.
