What the heck is the difference between the SD70 volume 2 packs...

Unread postby SoloTwo » Fri Jan 25, 2013 4:22 am

Ugh this is driving me insane. Apparently they are 2 SD70 Volume 2 Add-On's, one of course being called SD70 V2 Volume 2 Add-On. During the Christmas sale I bought V2 thinking, OH V2 means VERSION TWO, hence a newer version. And of course the original isn't available on steam for whatever reason. The older one has more scenarios, but from what I can tell everything else is exactly the same. I bought V2 thinking it was an updated version but NOPE not the case no lights etc. Whatever I can live with that crap but the problem lies in the fact that when a Scenario from the workshop requires the SD70 Volume 2 pack it of course requires the dern one that you can't buy anymore, even though they are the same. RAGE!

So can anyone explain what the hell the actual differences are or what the heck V2 is actually referring to.

Btw I love how they both show up on the railsimulator.com website...

Asfar as I can see V2 of the SD70 contains all the SD70 packs in one. Before they were all sold with just one version of the SD70 example Ace or Mac at least thats how I got them. I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will correct me.

Well I emailed support about this and got this amazing response.

"It is very confusing Shawn it would be better all around if it was renamed to something totally different."

So apparently they have no idea either.

I also bought that pack on 11-21-12. On 12-21-12 I sent support an e-mail and on 12-24-12 I received the response "We are aware of this issue and are working on a fix. It is a high priority at this moment in time". Now, another month has gone by and it still isn't fixed.
If they can't fix it, maybe they should just refund our money. When they get it fixed they can offer it in the store again. I bet they put our money in the bank and are getting interest on it.

Well when I got my SD70 pack in 10/2012, there were 2 versions......Vol 2 for $18.99 and Vol 2 v2 for $19.99. It didn't say what the difference was. They both had the same exact description on steam. So I just went for the cheaper "Vol 2" thinking there was no difference and that it was just double posted DLC with a title glitch.

In the last couple weeks I noticed a new thumbnail picture on the front collections screen. It is a picture of the box cover for TS 2013. When you select the picture, it says up in the information bar the words "SD70 v2 Volume 2". You click further to find out it's DLC and has a 50min long BNSF SD70MAC coal train scenario on Cajon Pass called "Return of the Mac". Steam must have downloaded this on it's own unbeknownst to me during an update. That scenario doesn't exist when you go into the single player scenarios or career scenarios either. You must select it from the collections screen only. I'm gonna take a guess that it was a scenario in the "vol 2 v2" pack that they decided to kick down to the regular "vol 2" owners for free.

For those that don't have it and don't know the contents..... the SD70 Vol 2 pack has the SD70MAC, SD70M-2 and the SD70ACe in CN, NS and BNSF liveries. The SD70ACe pack has Rio Grande and UP liveries only. !!howdy!!
EMD 2-strokes rule! My all time favorite: SD45X also love the SD40-2/SD40T-2/SD45-2/SD45T-2/DD35A/DDA40X/SD70ACe/SD80ACe
