DTG have an older article on Dovetail Live that explains what's happening with the core. In short: no further updates seem to be planned at the moment.

Basically just a new menu screen like the past several years... *!rolleyes!*

What is the basis of this affirmation? Have you read the release notes?
During the last several years, in each update DTG has fixed problems in TSC's core code and stabilized it. Remember 'SBH' crashes? Have you had any of these in the last few years?

Methinks you don't know what you're talking about.

Northerner even says it too. No core updates planned. Their notes in the article also dont mention of any (likely because there aren't any)

Please don't put words in my mouth. The game core has seen a massive overhaul* over the past couple of years. No further updates seem to planned at this point. To me, that's a far cry from "just a new menu screen like the past several years".

*) DTG explained very detailed here:

article from over a year ago
The current listing however is simply right now yes is just menu screens for those who have played. I feel like DTG would put something big as a core update (pick your fancy on the things that need fixing) in that list. It would at least help generate some form of hype/interest. The fact it's not something they lead with makes me think 9/10 there isnt anything other than 3 routes already released for a package they can sell. **!!2cents!!**

Well........ Big question is how much of it did DTG break that worked from the last version.........I have mine off line so I shouldn't get the new one rammed down my throat. If I end up buying something down the road then I'll have to deal with it. I advise all of you to have a working backup of the entire sim to fall back on if aspects of the newer one goes South.

I agree 100%! !!*ok*!! DTG could have at least updated the skybox or made some other core updates instead of leaving it to 3rd party developers.

DTG has stated that they are done with all development of the core program. All new products will come from 3rd party. Want a newer skybox check AP Sky and weather.
