As I have mentioned before, we are lucky anything is being developed at this stage for a program of this age. The number of average users in August (703.1) was almost the same as Train Sim World (720.2) up to the point of their most recent release TSW5, so there is still likely money to be made with TSC. I would think they have simply focused their efforts into generating as much revenue as possible for both sims. TSW only has a fraction of the add-ons TSC has available and they have a long way to go to match TSC's available content. Train Simulator World's content looks to be slightly more complex to develop (I actually looked at the PC (route) editor out of curiosity when it first released) and development definitely has been more limited. I suspect on a the developer's side, more folks have had to been thrown into the development of new content for TSW given these complexities. One only need read their forums to see some of the issues being encountered and stunted development of freeware content along with some of their existing content in one way or another. Outsourcing new route and content development to 3rd party creators with TSC is simply a smart play and allows them to double down on generating a further revenue off TSW and continuing to make new money off TSC. This sim has lots of potential still and has been very stable to work with route editing and I have no plans to jump ship elsewhere. Who knows, they may continue to provide further core updates in the future but the sim works and runs well so why worry.
