Hi Harry,

Many thanks!

At one point, there were up to six daily passenger trains crossing the Mountain Sub (West End Sub), including such illustrious names like the The National Limited or The Diplomat. A wonderful collection of historic timetables and other goodies can be found on this amazing website (and tons of most fascinating stuff for many other RRs):

And then of course there's always the B&O Historical Society, https://borhs.org/ for "all things B&O", including countless historic document replicas that can be ordered.

Cheers,
Michael

Thanks Michael.

Thanks this sounds like a really interesting scenario. I’m wondering how crews typically deal with flag stops, I assume depending on the track speed you would slow down to see whether you need to stop or not and then reaccelerate? How slow would you want to be going as the engineer?

Slow enough that you can stop in time, fast enough you aren't unneededly delaying yourself. It's more or less a feel thing rather than any set speed.

It's very much what BNSFDude said and depends on feel and experience. And of course, in RW we have the good old F4 HUD to help us along. :D

In my scenarios, most of the "stop or not" pop ups come up somewhere between 100-300 meters before the actual platform marker, which leaves precious little room to stop on the downhill sections and so you want to slow right down on approach, but more than enough on the uphill stretches where the gradient alone slows you down hard and fast if you just put the engine in idle. My biggest problem on the uphill sections was to apply enough brakes to avoid rolling backwards after stopping. *!embar*!

On the "fast" and level bits it all comes down to knowing your stopping distances. In 50 mph territory I usually start braking when coming up on half a mile to the platform but I think that's still too early (but I always chicken out!)

Cheers,
Michael

I've just uploaded a four-part local passenger scenario to the Workshop. Take control of B&O Train 30 (Parkersburg - Cumberland) across the Mountain Sub. Includes (lua) randomized flag stops -- you'll only know if you have to stop when you're approaching the depot.

Has anyone had a problem completing Part II of this 4 part series? It seems that no matter where I stop in position at Corinth, early or late, I get a fail on picking up the passengers. Same with the next stop as well. Both stops then show up with different arrival times? Thanks! Great scenarios! I really do love this pack.

Hi, I'm fairly certain that "stop at Corinth" came up during my test runs but I don't recall any issues with it. But maybe I just got lucky! I did observe some other oddities though, like that the stop duration took very long at some stops and not so much at others, even though they're all set to the editor's minimum value of 35 seconds. Maybe this has something to do with the short platform lengths and where I stopped the train relative to it, or with the fact that the first three cars in the consist are freight cars which don't have a "passenger cargo" setup in their blueprints.

My best advice would be to roll with it, role-playing style, and ignore any complaints the game or debriefing screen throws at you (like the simple fact that it's highly unlikely to even get an "all successfully completed" at the end, for that would mean that every single flagstop has to come up as stop at).

Cheers
