Heritage Units are here.

Here are my first comments the good and the bad.
First let me say that the paint jobs are beautiful and no I have not compared everything with the real ones. The headlights are lovely as you can see from the pictures. Unfortunately after everyone clamering for blinking ditch lights you got them, however UP does not so they are un-protypical. The horn is neat but after listening to hundreds if not thosands of these in the real world they too are not prototypical. The UP horns are much brighter and and sharper.

The best part of these are the engine sounds. They are lovely and RSC seems to have gotten rid of the jet engine sound when you have two or more units lashed up. Is this worth $20?

Your call.

Every horn is different. There is literally no two that sound alike in this world. I didn't feel like going out and recording another one, and I doubt RSC would've sold on the idea of paying me for another of the same thing.

That jet engine sound of the engines is called "flanging" in the audio world. It's the same sound sample played twice or more at the same time, with each playing slightly out of sync with each other that produces that characteristic whooshing sound. A very similar effect is called a "phaser". Basically sounds that are audibly out of phase with each other.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flanging

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phaser_%28effect%29

Anyways...good to hear about this. Krellnut's sounds for the ES44 and SD70 10-packs were made to eliminate this by having sounds from 10 different prime movers of the same type. I hope RSC does this in the future and maybe even add more sounds to existing DLCs to get rid of this annoying effect. The fact they did it on this pack has upped my interest in buying it.

As for the flashing ditch lights? Yeah... it's not the first time someone at RSC or whoever they contracted out didn't do their homework on DLC. I wish RSC would present the models and sounds to the Railworks community in at least a Youtube video before it's release date is announced. That way us rivet counters can help them get it right the FIRST TIME around. Just imagine a world were RSC doesn't have to pull DLC or send an update to fix it. It would be in their best interest in time and money to involve the community as DLC is being made. Not get the feedback once it's already been released.

In fact.... I'm gonna email them with that suggestion. Hope it goes somewhere. :D

You trying to tell me they have no beta testers? It seems to me they need some more carefull researchers as beta testers. This ain't rocket science.

It really irritates me that watching a simple youtube video could've made these a whole lot more accurate. *!rolleyes!* But no, just listen to the goons and whiners on facebook.

Totally reinforces what I said. As you heard, literally all horns are different. The one I had happened to be more balanced to the low end, with the 4A and 3A being a little shy in the chord progression while the 1L and 1 were proudly present.

As for beta, I didn't have time to try this bugger, but the ditchlights are indeed wrong. I suppose it couldn't be too hard to remove the animation trigger from the blueprints, no?

It depends if they are animated or LUA'd.

Well there has to be a trigger to start the animation loop, right?

That is only if they are animated. My ditch lights are not.
