New scenario tools!?

Unread postby OldProf » Sat Sep 28, 2013 1:57 pm

TS 2014 features a number of new scenario editing tools, some of which appear in the flyouts shown in this screen shot:

Image

For those whose vision is no better than mine, the new items in the left-hand track markers flyout include "Marker - AI Spawn Point", "Marker - Consist Spawn Point", and "Marker - Player Spawn Point". Previously, RSC has always discouraged train spawning, as from portals, and adding portals at the scenario editing level has been impossible. Could this have changed in TS2014?

And there's a new flyout in the lower-right corner of the scenario editing screen: several gadgets, no labels whatsoever.

The TS2014 User Manual does not mention scenario writing or editing at all and I haven't found anything at the "Engine Driver" site, either, so this is like acquiring new tools without having the slightest idea how they might work or what they might be able to do. Here's hoping that RSC provides some information soon!

The new Items on the left are for creating Quick Drive Scenarios and on the right if for the Google maps feature but I do not think the Google maps features actually works in the scenario editor

How do we add the fancy popups or make tutorials or career scenarios?

The menu at lower-right is the new Google Maps feature.
Cheers!

I think that the "fancy popups" require LUA scripting, but I know nothing about LUA and RSC ain't talkin'. !*not-ok*!

Well we could learn LUA, there are tutorials everywhere. But what do you do with the code. I found two boxes that pertain to scripting but one tellsme no file is found. I also found another box that is for extended weather, but the drop down in it is empty.

there also aline tool in editor witch i have no idea what it dose.
i found out the distince mountian terrain tool works. note it can have issus on big routes and might cause crashes. it crash on me few times.

Yep! Here we are, in the dark again -- or, actually, still. More than once or twice, on a variety of their websites and by means of their "support" service, I've politely asked RSC for an updated scenario editing manual, receiving only boilerplate, nonsense, and silence in reply. Good grief: the current manual (mystically or mistakenly called "RW Timetable View Manual_Web"), supposedly "version 1.1", dates to 2010! And even that did not explain all of the current available features. While I always appreciate forum members' suggestions about how to achieve this or that, only the people who actually invented this or that know how to use the newer features. Among the many as yet unfulfilled promises included in the run-up hype for TS2014, I recall something about ordinary mortals being able to create those fancy scenario message boxes. So far? Nothing.

Are these features currently used in a route or scenario?
If so we can learn by looking at the blueprints.
The tools in the Editor are basically just a UI for entering values in the blueprints.

Hi, I will come soon with a guide on how to do it. I found already a lot of helpful stuff, but it takes a bit more time to do some checking. Send me a PM if you like a preview.
