Computers, Video cards and Monitors.

I can finally afford to build a computer that can really deal with the graphics that Railworks can deliver. The core computer is a Asus M series desktop AS M51AC, CPU CI7 3.4, Memory DDR3 1600 @ 16GB, HDD 2TB SATA3. Video Card is a NV GT625/ 2GD3, Adding 750 watt power supply, and a GTX780 SUPERCLOCKED (EVGA - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 SC 3GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card). Ok but I am waiting on the parts but paid for and ordered. So for the time being I hooked up my new Samsung monitor VIA, HDMI and wow, just the replacement of the monitor made the difference. I had asked about this and I was told that monitor technology does make a big difference in performance.

That is a nice rig, Glenn! And I agree the difference in a new monitor can be amazing. We had a little "discussion" here a while back about DVI vs. HDMI (kinda got to be too much for the original poster). During that, I switched my monitor from it's DVI input and bought a nice HDMI cable, and the difference is fantastic. The monitor alone was already sweet, HDMI just made it better! Did you go to a higher resolution with the change or just picture quality? I have been thinking about this. My present card has it but not my monitors.

Resolution stayed at 1920x1080 and all graphics settings in my games and the Nvidia controls stayed the same. I did have to make adjustments to the monitor itself. Color was saturated, and it was way too bright. But it was easy with the Asus monitor's built in presets. Just one button to toggle thru the different presets.

Finally loading Railworks into my new computer, its only 40 percent done. Not bad since my railworks folder is about 35.5 gigs big.

Performance is outstanding. I have everything maxed out and smooth with excellent frame rates.

That's great news, Glenn! The worst part, for me, when building a new rig, is reinstalling Win 7 with all it's updates. Then video and sound drivers. But it's always nice to have a fresh system.
