Hello all. As a long time machinema creator, I thought I would pop up a list of a few tools that I have found are great for video capture.

1) Fraps - Well known, and in it's day was the best we could get. Free and Payware
2) NHC Software - Debut Capture Software - This is a great tool. A little more complex than Fraps but does a decent job. Free & Payware
3) Camtasia - Free and usable on good systems.
4) Movavi - By far the best software solution and worth every penny. Try the demo! http://www.movavi.com
5) The ultimate - AverMedia Live Gamer HD - This is hardware capture, flawless! http://www.avermedia.com/Product/Produc ... spx?Id=571

Hi

I have used avs4you (avs4you.com) to capture screen video, it did a reasonable job, big file with no resolution loss. I'm not sure how well it would do with RW captures, I used it to grab some Internet Explore video as a test. Their capture program is just part of a somewhat rudimentary and quite inexpensive (less than $100) suite of programs with audio, video and utility functions. Their unlimited updates license is real and I've see at least two updates per year for the last couple years. They do have a thirty day free trial as well that I think has no 'limited' features for the length of the trial.

I have also used VLC (VideoLAN.org) to capture. It did a great job of the video but currently, no audio. To get audio, you need to capture it separately then combine them later (with possible synch problems). VLC is also good for playing those videos that many other video players choke on.

Thanks for the input you two. I have not tried those so I will investigate. I do use VLC and it does a decent job of capture but as you stated Gary the audio is an issue. I used Moavi and was impressed. Considering what I do video wise, I may be purchasing the hardware option I mentioned.

Thanks!

Frame rate while capturing is purely dependent on the system horsepower and graphic settings. What is the CPU and GPU i the laptop?

I used Bandicam this evening to crate a video. It works well. I would have to add that to the top five of those I have tested.

I tried the DxTory demo and liked it quite a bit. Maybe if the price comes down a bit I'd buy it. In the mean time Bandicam works well.

Just curious: which video editing program did you use?
