trouble with installer

I just got Win7 64 bit and I love it. However (there is always one of those when it comes to computers) I just tried to run a installer and it says 'runtime error 1001' unsupported value type. Has anyone had any issues with the RW_Routesetup with the 64 bit system?

Wasn't JP just saying something about this? I know I just read the same issue somewhere here. Probably something in the route packaging. I don't have any issues with Win 7 64 bit and any installer. Is Win 7 totally up to date? There must be 100 .net updates for Win 7. !**duh*!!

JP is having a problem with the PL&E. Are you having the same issue?

I was having a issue with the installer for Marlyman's set for the NJT units. Tennessee Pass is a regular RWP. No problem. My problem is that I can't get a installer to run. RW_Routesetup.

So the installer is the same between packages that use it. For instance you can grab the one from P&LE and it should work. The difference is what is in the rail works folder included with the EXE. Just think of it as a glorified bat file that copies and deletes files.

If you read my first post you will see that I get this error message so it is not a address problem I don't think. I don't know how to fix this. It's the installer that is throwing up. I just tried another D/L that uses that method and it gives me the same error message.

I am a bit confused. I didn't talk about an address problem.

Lets start over. Do you see a folder called 'Railworks' next to RW_RouteSetup? If so you can potential drop that folder over your existing Railworks folder in Steam, say yes to overwrite (and cringe), and you should be good to go.

I will try to download the file at lunch and see what you are seeing.

Works fine for me, but then I have UAC turned off in Windows and railworks is not installed on drive C.
Apart from that, you can try switching your anti-virus off before trying the install.
Also, try re-downloading the zip file containing the installer. It could be corrupted.

UAC = *!twisted!* A throwback to Win Vista. I shut it down right away, but then I am the only person who has access to this PC.

Buzz, how new are you to Win 7? I have a lot of tips on my website about how to optimize Win 7: http://www.abithelp.com/ (General Discussion section) or I can help you here.

You also have to run both Steam and RW as Admin. I presume you have an Admin account for yourself, with a login password already. There's also performance and power settings, a whole slew of stuff you can customize! !!*ok*!!

This is all nice guys but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the error message I am getting.

Did you try what I suggested (which did not involve the installer)?

A runtime error is a Windows error, which is why you need to make sure Win 7 is updated fully, as I said before. Got to Windows Update and make sure Win 7 is current.
