The following message comes up during startup: "Pri slave Hard Disk:S.M.A.R.T. Status Bad, Backup & replace F1 to resume."
The computer starts after I hit F1 and seems to run fine. I downloaded PCPerformer to fix the Register. My "C" drive is a SSD 80 GB Intel that is 13months old.It has all of the Win 7 64 bit and Microsofts softwareon it. I built this computer w/ the following: Mobo, ASUS P6, Intel i7 930 cpu, 6gB Corsair Ram, Nvidia GTX 470 Video card, 24" Dell monitor, on board sound. I have 2 other HD's. A 300GB Velocirapter for games andand train & flight simms and a 750 GB WD for storage.
A program called HD Tune shows a bad sector on the SSD. The HD is still under warranty ,however, I have to send it back first then they will replace. Not my first choice. I would rather buy another SSD and install it . The SSD are very fast and the computer runs great. Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be greatfull.

S.M.A.R.T. is the software in BIOS that monitors your hard drive(s) to warn you if there is a problem with the drive.
It sounds like you might have a bad drive with a bad sector or more on it.

Try running Check Disk to see if it can fix the problem. You can find out how to run Check Disk for your Operating System by doing a Google search using Win 7 Check Disk as your search term.

Sorry, Ed, I have to over rule you here. You never use CHKDSK on an SSD. With Win 7 there is the "TRIM' command found in Disk Management (Control Panel) Windows could just be seeing a sector that "looks" bad. TRIM can fix that (sometimes) You also never ever defrag an SSD. But this is an early Intel drive, they did have random failures.

Otto, if you can afford it, it may be a good time to get a larger primary drive anyways. Use Acronis True Image to copy the data over.

Thanks for the info. I thought that I would have to replace the SSD. I can get a120GB from Amazon for 189.95. Then I will send back thi ssd to intel and keep as a spair.
I knew about the ssd and not to defrag. *!!thnx!!*
