L.A.Noire problem

Unread postby Dan » Tue Nov 29, 2011 2:37 pm

Hi,

Seeing as it was on sale at Steam I bought L.A.Noire. The problem is that it won't load for me. I keep on getting the following error: 'Failed to load library "d3dx11_43.dll"'

Any ideas about what the problem is and what I need to do?

Nothing but it is a computer related problem and as there are people who are knowledgeable about computers I thought I would ask. I don't understand what the error message means but someone else might and someone else might know what the solution is. Is that ok with you?

Anyway...

You can try to download the latest DirectX redistributable.

Thanks. I've dl'ed that, installed it and rebooted. I no longer get the error message but I still can't get the game to run. :( The loading screen comes up, runs for a bit (the .exe is running on task manager,) then it ends and the exe vanishes from task manager.

I am sure it is something simple.

Since you got it at Steam, uninstall that game and let Steam reinstall it, no that you've apparently fixed the dll problem.

Dan, go here for more specific help: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/f ... php?f=1269

As with any Steam game, first thing is to verify the game files. When Steam has a lot of big sales going on, their servers get slammed hard, so files can be missed.

Hi,

I had a look there. I did verify and it came up with no problems. It looks like it has a lot of bugs so I think I might just set it aside and hope for some fixes.

No point in tearing my hair out over it. I'm sure it'll get fixed. It appears that it wants net 3.5 but doesn't like 4.0 but if you have 4.0 you can't install 3.5 etc etc

Hi,

I tried and it wouldn't let me. I think what you have to do is uninstall 4.0 and then install 3.5 and then re-install 4.0 which seems a very long way around the houses- and to be honest I am not even sure if that is the problem with the game. I'll leave it for a bit I think and come back to it when hopefully they've produced some more fixes.

I am sorry but this is not true. You do not need to install 3.5 before 4.0.

Are you getting an error message? If so what is it?

No error message. It just won't even start to install. DL - double click - nothing happens. I'll try again later. I assumed that because I had 4.0 installed that it wouldn't let me install 3.5 - the info that i had to uninstall 4.0 and then install 3.5 came from the steam forums...

And as I've said I've already looked there and tried several of the things suggested. Some advice is useful, some of the advice there is not so helpful. See for example the fact that on steam they say you have to uninstall 4.0 before installing 3.5. Which is apparently wrong.

TBH I've put the game to bed for a while as it is clear that there are lots of problems with it. I'll try again in a few weeks or so.
