Will my new computer run railworks 2012?...

Unread postby wongsing » Sun Nov 27, 2011 1:08 am

Hello everyone, I just bought this computer last night at bestbuy and was wondering how this will play railworks.

HP- Pavilion Laptop / Intel® Core™ i7 Processor / 17.3" Display- Steel Gray
Model: DV7-6b77dx • SKU: 3649119

Processor: intel core i7-2670qm - 2.2 GHz with up to 3.1 GHz with turbo boost.

Memory: 6GB DDR3 SDRAM (expandable up to 16GB)

Graphics: Intel HD graphics 3000

The computer I was using before was an HP as well (granted it was purchased at the end of '07!) It had 2 gigs of ram, dual processors, some nvidea graphics card that I'm sure wasn't that great. I still have it and all. It was playing railworks just fine until the rs2012 patch came out. Even with TSX turned off it still wouldn't run the same for some reason after that. (please everyone bear with me, I know alittle about computers but not THAT much).

I noticed on the box that it didn't mention a graphics card of any sort (so that would mean it's "integrated", right?) I have looked up the specs that railworks 2012 requires, and although this computer seems to have what it will take, I'm worried that the game will not run or give me so many problems that this would not amount to a good purchase after all. Lastly, just in case anyone was wondering as they read this, I did not buy this laptop JUST to play railworks, but for general purpose, games and basic tasks. Also, why a laptop you may ask...I do infact realize I could have gotten a more powerful !*roll-laugh*!desktop for the same money but being on the go all the time in the military, I needed something portable to soothe my train simming habits...Hopefully I chose wisely... !*don-know!* opinions?

I dunno about your graphics. That sounds like integrated graphics to me, which isn't going to like Railworks (and probably will have trouble with other games too). I'm kind of surprised that a machine packing an i7 would have integrated graphics, though. !*don-know!*

Rull of thumb, if your computer can run Windows7 Areo desktop (the see through, fancy new desktop theme) it should run most games on at least the "lower" settings. Then bump up the settings until it crashes, and back off a little until you find a sweet spot.

Well, it seems as if integrated graphics have come a long way! Not only does my computer play railworks but it plays it well! With TSX on I can only run it with medium settings (which still makes it look pretty good!) with tax turned off I can run with the graphics options maxxed out completely and it still runs pretty smooth. Perhaps it's not in the 30-40 fps range, but no stuttering even with trains passing. I'm Pretty happy! Even without a super powerful desktop I can still play...and I only paid $650 for this laptop!!!!
