Video Card

Unread postby Shortliner » Fri Sep 23, 2011 10:06 pm

So, whats a good video card for TS2012? Right now I have a Geforce GT 520, and it does ok on medium, but I'm not fine with medium or "ok". I want to go higher. So, any recommendation?

I have a 250 GTS and it seems to run Horseshoe on med-high to high settings with a steady 19-28fps. I'm good with that until I get a new card for BF3.

I've got an EVGA GTX 470 SSC (Super Super Clocked) and it runs Bar San Berdo at about 25 to 30 frames with everything on high.

I am selling an Nvidia GTS 450 video card that I just replaced with a 550 Ti. It ran RW 3 between 20-30FPS on medium detail. Anyone want, i'm selling for 75$ (its a fairly new card, only been used for about four months) plus U pay shipping. It's not top of the line but it may be better than what you already have. Check it out on the Nvidia site.

I recommend a MSI NVIDIA GeForce N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II.

The card has 1GB cache and seems to have a pretty good price - performance ratio.
I'll soon assemble a new PC and include exactly that card.

You beat me to it.

The 560ti looks to be the best combo of performance/price.

If people don't mind shelling out the extra $$$ the 570 & 580 series should also perform very nicely.

I'm sitting here with my newegg app open. Buy dual 6970's or go with a single 6990. Same price. I just can't decide.

Power not a problem. I've got 1200watts.

The 6970's are the same length as my 5870's which fit fine.

The 6990 is an inch longer and there is 50/50 chance I'd have to slide a hard drive bay forward (or modify it).

Either way space isn't a concern.

I'm using a GTX 580 superclocked and a GTX 520 dedicated to PhsyX. Everything maxed out, except AA in nvidia control panel instead of game, and getting 50 to 60 fps on Horseshoe. The game works fine for me.

Very bad chart. As I said in the other thread, the 460 is the only decent, modern card there. The other three are all 2-4 generations old, and the 7950 is the only other high-end card. The 5450 is a budget card, and the 4600 is a 2 gen old lower-mid range...

I have two Nvidia 9800 GTX in SLI.

I was disappointed with SLI, not because of performance, but because I have to manually enable it every time I need it.
I have 3 monitors, which of course is not possible with SLI, so I have to disable SLI at all times except for a few games like TS2012.

For some reason, I can't just associate SLI to a game's profile in the Nvidia control panel. It doesn't turn on when I launch the game.
When I manually disable SLI after playing, the configuration of screens, icons, etc is all farked up.
For this reason, I rarely use it.

So I found out that if I let the video card handle AA and Anisotropic, I get better framerates. I get even better framrates than leaving them off on TS2012.

So, my next question is, is there anything the graphic card is better at handling than TS2012? I figure the more things I can have the graphic card handle rather than the game, the better my framerates will be.

You can't use TSX and forced-FSAA. I am trying letting the card do AF and setting it to bilinear in the game launcher, seems to work better for others than me.

Debating between a 6950 and a 560Ti atm... had terrible luck in the past with Nvidia, none lasted longer than 6 months before expiring, but I do sometimes get fed up with the hassle ATi cards seem to cause. Probably a good idea to get a 2GB card, recommendations for either? I can't afford 3 slots for one so that particular Asus card is right out. Not massively keen on MSI for various reasons either.
