In-Cab Mouse Control

Unread postby gtrtroger » Tue Dec 06, 2022 2:26 pm

Something strange popped up yesterday - no mouse control inside the cockpit. The scroll wheel would zoom in and out, but no amount of work would get the mouse to allow me so view the inside of the cab. Now I know this used to work. I even re-verified the 7k plus files to make sure I was clean. No help. I have made no changes to TS except moving routes in and out using Store Them. It does mean I can’t use TS, but it is an annoyance I could do without. Outside the cab, the mouse works just fine.

Anyone experience this issue before?

Do you have any head tracking software running?

If an optical mouse ensure no dust is over the optical sensor even just one hair can affect it. You might need to take the old type of mouse apart to clean it. Just an idea.

If it works on everything else such a a word or text document then it is not the mouse it is something with the game.

Did you try this with several locomotives?

Yes…. I also reinstalled mouse/usb drivers. No joy.
Stumped really…it’s strange as this worked just fine for many years. All I’ve changed on this PC was the graphics card.

Did this start right after you changed the graphics card?

I couldn’t tell you really - I just happened to discover it one day. Normally I drive by the keyboard and don’t do a lot of looking around the cab. It’s not keeping me from playing or enjoying the sim, but, it is “interesting” nonetheless.

I finally discovered the source of this mouse problem. I don't know who else may encounter this problem but here is the solution.

Not long ago, I had updated my flightsim head-tracking software. I never realized there was a problem until I ran TS and discovered that, while the external cab mouse functions were working correctly, the in-cab mouse functions no longer worked. I updated, verified, changed, etc., etc., looking for a solution - no joy. So, I when to the internet and found out that I should uninstall the head-tracking software then test it. This step solved the problem; the in-cab mouse functions now worked. Evidently something in the head-tracking function was being reprogrammed. So, I have opened a bug report with my head-tracking software source and hopefully this issue will be examined and rectified soon. In the meantime, I'll have to come up with a solution/workaround that allows me to flip back and forth between flight and railroad simulations.

Issue temporarily resolved - pending a software update.
