Microsoft forcing Seven users to update to Ten?

After installing the latest updates to my perfectly working Windows 7 computer, Windows suddenly tells it won't support that computer anymore, forcing an update to Windows 10.

Nice one, Microsoft: 7th gen Intel and AMD Raizen CPU's are left out in the cold on Windows 7. Windows 10 is full of MS crap which I don't care about at all, like Cortana and all this telemetry and spyware stuff.

I do want a lean and mean gaming rig without crapware and bloatware !!!

Its not Microsoft's windows 7 not supporting the chips, its the chips not supporting windows 7. Yes there is some stuff I don't like on 10 such as cortona. But you can disable them from guides on the internet. Its a nice os. And it does have a small learning curve from 7 but I do enjoy it.

Also that spyware thing was debunked a long time ago as someone taking the terms of service in a wrong way.

I have to admit, the games do run slightly better on 10 right now since the early bugs were fixed.

The testing by the independent tech outfits shows that 10 now has a slight edge in gaming performance.

There are advantages to Windows 10. For one you can now transfer the OS from Motherboard to Motherboard, instead of buying a whole new OS disk when you upgrade the old gaming rig.

I've transferred my SSD and my Mothers HDD from old PCs to new builds twice now with no issues.
If you make a MS account or already have one, like Hotmail, you they now give a person a transferable digital license.
A person just has to remember to upgrade to 10 before building the new PC, so they can transfer it on the drive first to the new Mobo.

I actually like 10 except for one thing. They do occasionally still bork something with one of their half-ass driver updates. For me that has always been the Nvidia driver.

Was this from today's update, Edwin, as everything looked OK to me. Microsoft are bundling everything into 1 big monthly pack now, but, I still get the same files being pushed individually for me to install now and again, but, I keep deleting them, one of the files is the infamous kb2952664 from last year, but I made a list of what to avoid and nothing has happened to my PC, in fact, you are the first person I have seen who has raised this issue. I have WIN 7 and am not changing anything on my computer for at least 2 more years, or, until I have had my money's worth.

I saw they were dropping support for Vista but I hadn't heard about any changes to 7.

I suspect from something the OP said that, he must have upgraded to Kaby Lake or a Ryzen based PC... The new chips are no longer supported by anything but Win 10.

I have win7 pro and see no signs of a forced upgrade.

Hmmm, I was thinking of getting a Kaby Lake CPU next year, so, that's very interesting information, Eric, thanks for that, I have no intention of going across to WIN10 for the time being.

Just for the record, that's Cortana, not Cortona, a wonderful Italian town where I have the privilege to live at times.
