The latest plug ins in my dev file are for 3DS Max 2015, but the latest version of 3DS Max is 2017. Will the 2015 plug ins work with the 2017 version of 3DS Max, or conversely will the 2015 version of 3DS Max work in Windows 10 64 bit?
I am planning to get a student version of 3DS but not sure which version to get.

Nope, only with Max 2015 or 2016.

Go with Max 2016 for the present..maybe DTG will recompile the plugin in the future and you can then upgrade.

I now have 3DS Max 2016 installed. How do I insert the plugins?

Kudos (or should I say Kujus) to Derek S. who took two hours of his own time to get me pointed on the straight and narrow.
I had been unable to create a scenery blueprint from a simple model made in 3DS Max, and suspected that I was doing something wrong in using the program. Derek walked me through the proper steps to creating the model and exporting using 3DS Max, and they were the same steps I had been taking. At the end Derek had the insight to discover that I had not set up my folders in the Source directory correctly, and that was what was keeping me from creating the scenery blueprint.
I can't thank Derek enough for what he did for me in helping me get going with modeling in 3DS Max.

You don't see that kind of dedication from many game developers.

Got that right! Kudos to you, Derek, for helping out a another modeler. As Chacal mentioned, not many would have done the same.

What makes our hobby so amazing is the strength of the genuine community that look to play, tinker create and enjoy the software.
It's not perfect by any means but it has brought me so much pleasure over the years and hopefully for a few more too.
We all take time out to help and support each other which for me makes it all worth while.
