Any AMD guys on here?

Unread postby Haystack » Mon Feb 01, 2016 2:35 pm

Well lately I've been thinking about upgrading my current pc and I wanted to see what you guys thought.

So I have a pretty old pc that I've been upgrading over the years.
Specs:
i3 550 3.2ghz
Msi H55m-E23
8gb gskill ripjaws
EVGA GTX660 2GB
500W Corsair psu
500gb Western Digital Caviar Blue

I've always been an Intel guy but after checking out the latest offerings I realized that I would need to upgrade pretty much everything such as DDR4 ram, power supply that supports that new processors, etc.

Then I checked out AMD and I liked that I could upgrade my cpu and mobo and still use the rest of my build for a few more years until I totally do a completely new build.

I was thinking about a AMD FX 6300 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113286#close
and then one of these matx boards (anyone have any input on which one to go with?) http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100007625%20600138080%20600009017

One draw back that I read about is that some people are having trouble running windows 10 with a set up like this. Anyone having any trouble?
Also do you think this would give me some better performance in TS2016?

You guys really need to learn to use Google. Just put in the processor old "vs" the processor you're thinking of going to.

I looked that up, and what it boils down to is this. The i3 you already have is faster than the FX CPU in single core performance and that's what you need for gaming.
The AMD CPUs look faster in some benchmarks because they test a two core Intel against a multi threaded AMD unit, but gaming and almost all desktop performance is about single core vs single core.
IE Intel beats AMD CPUs hands down when it comes to single core performance.

The best you could do in your price range is find a GTX960 on sale for about $150 U.S.
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.
Slick with Pretty Rainbow Colors.

I did google it but I wanted to hear what you guys had to say. Isn't that what a forum is for? :D

After some further thought I think I'll just hold off for now I guess. I don't think it's worth it to upgrade everything just for the new platform.
