Soundcard Suggestions

Unread postby FHRob » Mon Jul 20, 2015 8:47 pm

I'm considering the addition of a soundcard.

When I read the reviews, each card seems to have issues, especially with drivers. !*not-ok*!

Anybody have the ASUS Xonar DGX Gaming 5.1 card?

Thanks,

Rob :D

I have the Xonar DX, I can't complain about it.

Do you have the full 7.1 setup?

Asus cards seem popular. I use to use Creative Sound Cards which were pretty good. I find today that the Realtech on board sound suits my needs now.

I am using the Creative Sound Blaster card that came with my new (last year) Dell XPS 8700 desktop PC. The speakers are an ancient Dell 5.1 surround system, carried over from my old computer. I don't update drivers unless a problem develops and I have had zero issues with this card. I'm especially impressed with its equalizer. I never bothered with one before, but this card/equalizer has given new life to some previously unlisten-able older recordings. And more to the point here, the diesel rumble is...well...X rated! Strongly recommend a dedicated sub-woofer for this sim, if you can utilize one at some time in the future. Sound is a significant part of its enjoyment for me.

Hope this helps.

I was using Realtech onboard but I lost the equalizer with their latest Win 7 64 bit drivers. Found an old Audigy 2 ZS card at a local shop for $20 and found drivers online that made the card work on Win 7, and I love it. I have a Logitech 5.1 system that really sounds great turned up with this card.

I am running a Soundblaster Z. I really like it. The drivers are great (for Windows 7/8.1 anyway) and it really sounds fantastic. It came with a beam forming mic with some nifty software wizardry that helps cut out noise outside an angle that you can set up. I think I paid around $80 for the card from Amazon.
