So Firefox is saying we should get rid of Adobe Flash because it's too easy to hack. What should we replace it with?

HTML 5 has been slowly (too slow in my opinion) taking over where flash was used, so your browser is still the place where you will be watching and playing movies and apps.

Well, nothing ideally as most sites transitioned off Flash altogether. Youtube and others switched to HTML 5 video a while back. Most of the time it's craptastic flash ads.

Flash and Java are both security disasters so better to let them go everywhere possible.

As an IT and Security Pro, all I can say is "Its about time!" I've been preaching the faults of flash for years. Kill it now and let's move forward.....there are and have been more secure options.

That's interesting every time I play a Youtube video I get a message saying that Adobe Flash is required to play this video - which then goes on to play anyway!

I would love to get rid of Java & Flash for all the reasons give here!

Not all Youtube videos have been transcoded to other formats. May also depend on the web browser you are using.

That's because you need to go into YouTube and click on the button that says to use HTML5 whenever possible.
Also your browser must support HTML5.
Here's the link for turning on the HTML5 option at YouTube.
https://www.youtube.com/html5

Most Flash malware actually comes from adds in the sidebars, so if a person uses Chrome or Firefox with AdblockPlus the malware hits drop to essentially zero.
I had been told that years ago, but it wasn't until about 3-4 years ago that I first started using the AdblockPlus extension for Firefox. Sure enough I noticed less hits on my anti virus programs. In fact it dropped to zero, except for one annoying episode with Conduit redirect malware from tvguide.com

Check out my above post Peter. I was editing it to ad the link at YouTube, because it's not in a person's settings.
Anyhow, you posted before I finished.

I've set Youtube to use HTML5 as per your suggestion and it works very well!
Thanks
