Ok, Windows keeps installing the newer driver over the older one cause me to lose wireless for good. I've set Windows Update to download updates but does not install them unless I give the say so. In Device Manager, I am using a .263 version and windows installs the .270 version automatically over it causing it to fail. Windows also cannot verify the signatures on the .270 version.
My adapter is a Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter.

What version of Windows are you using? Have you tried the .298 drivers from the Atheros website?

Win 8.1. I've tried newer versions still same thing, its really odd. Anything higher than .263 will make the connection drop a lot and sometimes it does not reconnect.

I think we are getting off topic to what I was talking about. My problem is that windows installs it's "new" drivers over the .263 ones. I was wondering how can I stop it from installing automatically.

I think the way to prevent that is go find the newer one in your driver files and delete it, Then windows won't be able to find it as long as you have your settings to not install until you tell it to install.

It's all good now, I found out windows had a copy of the newer drivers so I deleted them

. Windows was pulling them from a driver store each time I went to refresh/scan for changes in device manager.

Doing that only prohibits it coming back in a day. I've changed it to do not update device settings now and I hope that works.
What windows does is that it installs the .270 drivers over the .263 and I know it when my wi fi connection gives out. So I roll them back and windows still insists on the .270 drivers.
I lose my wifi every hour with the 270 drivers. The 263 drivers are usually good up to around a couple days.

This may help.
I have no understanding of why Microsoft feels they should always install new drivers. When it comes to drivers "if it ain't broke, don't fix it..."
This is for Win 7, but under the hood 7 and 8 tend to work the same.
