New computer

Unread postby jamesphh » Fri Nov 14, 2014 2:03 pm

I have purchased a new computer to replace my 7 year old box. I am in the process of transfering steam and RW ( and other files) to an external HD which will then transfer to the new one.
What is the best way to get steam and RW to register the necessary files into the registry and install DX9?

The easiest way assuming you remember your account name and password fr steam is just go to their page and do a fresh install from them. I would D/L TS2015 again and then put your saved asset and content folder into the new install. That will give you all your stuff on a nice clean new Steam and TS2015. Or if you prefer not to mess with it you can just stick your whole Steam folder into your program files and it should work. Is this a Win8 machine?

What I did was just copy the whole RW folder from your oops computer to your new computer. Then run a file verification to correct any damage, if any from the transfer.

Yes, it is a win 8 operating sys. I am going from a 2.5G 4 core with 8G ram two 7200 HD's and a GT545 Nvidia card.
New is 3.2G i5 with a single 7200 HD 8 G ram and a GTX 760.
Going from a 20" square monitor to a 24" wide screen.
Transfer is being done with a USB external HD Slow on a USB 2.0 port.
I know that the learning process for Win 8 is long. But plan to use the desktop.

When I got mine it came with Win8, one of the first things I did was install win7. Win8 is good on a touchscreen but otherwise I can't stand it.

After a virus removal trying to get 7 zip, files are transferred. Latest RW update installed, and we are running. Also note that win 8.1 is far better the Win 8. Thanks to all.
