Anyone Else Having PC Hiccups?

Unread postby Ericmopar » Sun Sep 07, 2014 8:09 pm

I seem to be having some minor hiccups since I did my first windows update in a couple of months.
Mouse not always waking from sleep and miscellaneous snags in Firefox and game.
I haven't touched anything else, just did the updates.

Possibly a "gotcha" to check - are you using a wireless mouse/keyboard? Battery might need to be changed. The mouse I have (Logitech M510) is amazing - I only change the battery once every 2 or 3 years. So when it starts going, it always makes me think it's the computer!

If not...you might want to try rolling back your graphics card driver to see if that fixes it (or try a system restore). That will at least help narrow things down.

Nothing wireless here and the problems mysteriously stopped.
My graphics driver is the same one I've been using for a year and is stable. I finally learned not to mess with the GPU drivers unless needed.
I've tried Logitech mice, but I'm one of the freaks of nature, that can hear that capacitor whine. *!greengrin!*
I settled on a Roccat Kone XTD.

If Windows hadn't been updated in a couple of months there were quite a few that were needed. (I already know you weed thru them first, and don't let MS update drivers) I find at times after an update, W7 needs some time to settle back down and act like it's "normal" self. If there is such a thing. A day at the most for me usually, and I leave the PC on so that the Malicious Software Tool can do it's thing (it only runs when the PC is idle).

I think you're right Chris. It was just that phase Windows sometimes goes through after a large update.
It was probably on it's "relearning" curve.
There were some weird things. I think for instance, that one or more of the updates cleared some cache space this time.
I can't remember off hand what it was, but something made me suspect the DNS cache had been cleared.
For instance, Startup got strange for a day .
Steam is acting a bit weird since the last big update too. It added two new (for me) startup items.
