Trainz: A New Era

I was recently on YouTube and came across this and my god does it look promising. Don't get me wrong, I love all simulators of the railways, but this, I was choking it was so magnificent.

The graphics look mightily impressive on the new videos, for sure - and Jointed Rail's US range of US locos make a compelling case for American simmers. But the range of good routes available is very poor and Trainz also remains slow and unresponsive on my PC - also I don't have HD space currently for the 2 sims so Trainz is in storage until my next change of PC

My PC runs them both just fine. As for what they have in store, I might need a few upgrades. Lol

Still very chalky looking and drab. Seems to have a hard time showing shadows properly. Nice try Trainz. !*not-ok*!

Yet I always seem to find posts about other things besides railworks.

And nothing is perfect, its a step up for trainz, a game I really enjoy for the variety of locos and cars to run. Graphics don't matter to me, its about how much fun I have while playing it.

A once great man said "To understand the Great Mystery, you must embrace all of it, not just the narrow dogmatic view of the (substitute a fan of certain railroad games here)". Although TS2014 is my primary train game, I like MSTS for it's depth of DLC, not to mention the Western and Atlantic Route. When I want to be purely operational, not caring for the piss-poor graphics, I play Run8. And when I want a cross between somewhat good looks and semi-realistic physics and AI, I play Trainz 2012 (the Mohave sub is fantastic).

Don't be a player hater. Play'em all!

I am not in any way a player hater. It's just that this forum is dedicated to Railworks hence the name. If you want to talk about other simulators go to train sim that supports all of the sims or wherever.

Or, maybe this could be moved to "Geek Speak" where we have talked about games and sims other than RW before? *!!wink!!*

Well, I didn't know, I just figured general discussion. I'm not trying to make this a 24 page argument on what games what and what's what, I just wanted some insight on what others think. Maybe GeekSpeek would be better.

I like the new graphics engine they are developing. Looks really good. With graphics like that and jointed rails content Im sure it will make a lot of hardcore trainz fans happy.

Competition is good for all users.
Improvements made by one provider eventually make their way to other provider's products.
That's not particular to games, mind you.

I used to play Trainz. I left after pretty much getting run out of every forum because at the time I didn't have a computer that could run anything better than version 2.6 (2006). The communities sucked prior to 2010 & 2012's release anyways. Only met 5 people who were genuinely nice to me.

Railworks forums (with the exception of the Steam one) have been great! Mostly because I'm can't be alienated for having an out of date version of the game. And everyone has been nice to me in way way or another. (Except at the Steam Forums)
