I would call your Internet Provider and ask them if there is an outage in your area. !!*ok*!!

right click that little icon, open networks and sharing center. on the left you will see change adapter settings, go into that. now you will have LAN and WNC for your options. rightclick your wireless network connection and you should see the option to either enable or disable it.

If you are using a wireless connection it shouldn't be a LAN connection. That's for a wired connection.

That local area connection is unplugged thing is normal if you are using wifi and not a hard connection to your modem.
Did AVG create it's own firewall by chance. I had that recently when my mother installed a non Eric approved version of Kaspersky that checks everything and creates it's own firewall etc.
Also, did you try disabling or uninstalling AVG to see if that fixes the problem?
There could be elements of the old security interfering. Uninstallers have gotten painfully bad again in the last few years.
What version of AVG and if "Free" where did that copy come from. If it was a free copy that was not from AVG's servers, then it could be full of malware...

Never download Software from other than the creator's servers. It's asking for virus' etc.

I'm gonna go with Eric on this one, Mike. I suspect that AVG might have installed it's own Firewall. Uninstall it and see if the wireless returns. (personally, I don't even run Windows Firewall) And I found this bit from MS' Troubleshooting site:

"Make sure that No Firewall is preventing/blocking the Wireless components to get to the Network.

Some 3rd party Software Firewalls/AV/Security suit,s keep blocking aspects of Local Traffic even it they are turned Off (disabled).

If possible configure the Firewall /Security suit correctly, otherwise totally uninstall it, and get rid of its residual processes to allow clean flow of local network traffic."

This Realtek wireless must be an add-in card, because it's not an onboard device on your MSI motherboard. You may have to end up doing a System Restore to back before you installed AVG.

PS: I highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials as a free Anti Virus.

You may need to go look for AVG folders and manually delete them.
It may have changed the Windows firewall, in which case you may need to go into windows firewall and click on the "allow a program or feature through windows firewall" and then go from there and see if you need to add your wifi software back in and/or check it off to allow it.

If you reinstall some kind of security, you can also add the .exe for the wifi cards drivers into the excepted processes list in the security software.

Yes. It will be interesting to see if you get on line with a cable. Since you appear to have no wlan set up that should be why the thing won't connect.

Did it work with the cable?

I think you can install AVG Mike, but you need to find your wifi .exe and add it to the excepted processes list in AVG or whatever security suite you decide on.
I got curious last night and Googled AVG and wifi, and a lot of people going back for several years had problems with that.
AVG said more than once in their own forums that you may have to reinstall your wifi driver.
You can try going into the device manager and uninstalling the wifi adaptor, then restart the PC and see if it will reinstall the existing driver.
Or you must have a driver disc for that card laying around somewhere... I hope.

BTW that first picture looked kind of blown up and pixelated, did that AVG instal mess with your graphics too?
If so we're looking at something very wrong.

Personally, I ditched AVG years ago because of too many "false positives". Tried Anti Vir but the updates kept messing up. Went with Avast! for a while, back to false positives and nagging to upgrade. Been very happy with Microsoft Security Essentials for several years now. Never a problem with either Ethernet (wired Internet) or WiFi. I refuse to pay for anti virus that I can get free.

(the preceding is, as always, my humble opinion. your mileage may vary)

I have been using AVG for close to ten years and have never had any problems nor any viruses on my computers.

Interesting, I used to use AVG Free and I too quit using it after awhile because of false positives. I used to like AVG's interface.
My mother liked AVG Free enough to upgrade to the paid version, but that slowed the computer down too much.

I don't know where you guys go but I can't remember the last time I got a "false positive" and yes I'm using the free version. Firefox, Win7 with firewall on. I also use the pro version of Iobit's Advanced System Care7 to keep my computer tuned and happy. I should say computers (3) and they all seem to stay happy.
