Is your latest update 9/30 or something newer? That's the version I'm on and it's running fine. Do you have a NVidia card or something else?

Have you updated the video and audio programs themselves?

Well yes and no. I own PowerDirector 16 and they just released version 18 last month. I usually buy every other version when it goes on sale. I mainly upgrade to help support the company so they are still around years from now. I don't use most of the new features that are added each year. I only care if the rendering gets a little faster, even though it already has the fastest rendering times on the market. So yes.... my version 16 is up to date. But keep in mind that it's two versions back.... so I don't expect anymore updates unless they really need to. Same with my Sony Vegas. I have version 15 and they released version 17 a couple months ago. Mine is up to date and I have no plans on upgrading since I don't use it that often anymore. Only for a few of it's tools and that's it.

But the fact that both my video editors bricked on me, along with my TS2020 that's up to date....... tells me this is an issue with one of the windows updates that happened in mid September. Since it worked fine the first week of September, I have to assume it's one of the updates that installed after that.

They are...

September 10, 2019—KB4515384 (OS Build 18362.356)........... which installed on September 14, 2019
September 10, 2019-KB4514359 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 version 1903 and Windows 10 version 1909.......... which was installed on September 14, 2019
September 10, 2019-KB4516115 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player ........ which was installed on September 14, 2019

September 26, 2019 — KB4522738 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 version 1903 and Windows Server 1903 RTM ....... which was installed on September 28, 2019
September 26, 2019—KB4517211 (OS Build 18362.387) ........ which was installed on September 28, 2019

October 3, 2019—KB4524147 (OS Build 18362.388) ...... which was installed on October 4, 2019
October 8, 2019—KB4517389 (OS Build 18362.418) ....... which was installed on October 16, 2019
October 24, 2019-KB4522741 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 1903 and Windows Server 1903 RTM ...... which was installed on October 29, 2019

The updates in RED are the ones I'm 95% sure are the ones that bricked these programs, although there's a 5% chance the BLUE updates were the culprit, but I doubt it. My memory is a little fuzzy as to exactly when the programs stopped working, but I know it was between mid September and late September. So I assume the updates in RED are the culprits.

I had a problem shortly after installing win10 and it turned out after fiddling around that the MSVCP140.dll file had gotten corrupted. Re-intalled that and problem solved. Worth a shot. Sorry about not reading the computer info. Too much information. !*roll-laugh*!

Thanks for the responses. What I’ve decided to do is to finish editing my last video and in the next few days I’m going to update the 2 years out of date windows on the hard drive and see if PowerDirector and TS2020 end up crashing. If they do, I’ll just revert to the restore point and only use it whenever I need to edit video for now. Otherwise I’ll keep using my SSD drive until hopefully a future update fixes it.

If the hard disk updating results in the programs still working, then that leads me to believe it was some type of file corruption during one of the updates. That would be enough to convince me to attempt a fresh factory condition installation from the backup partition.

I hate the last option because I’d have to download and install a couple hundred gigs worth of games. But if it makes things all right again, a fresh install is ultimately worth it. We will see.

UPDATE....

So on my backup hard disk that had a 2-year old out of date Windows 10 on it. I made sure I finished all my video editing with it first before updating anything on it. With all that done, I made a restore point and preceded to update both Windows and PowerDirector to both their latest updates. PowerDirector worked just fine afterwards. I also updated to the latest version of TS2020 64-bit and it still works. So this made me think that my SSD windows install had a corrupt windows file as Buzz suggested.

So I did a Win 10 re-install on my SSD... but chose the option that keeps all your programs and personal files intact. It took a couple hours. I then ran PowerDirector...... and it crashed. So I uninstalled the program and all it's components and did a fresh install of it. It still crashes. I ran TS2020 64-bit... and it crashed. I ran Sony Vegas and surprisingly it didn't crash, although it still might have crashed if I had tested it a little longer. At least it wasn't crashing shortly after it opened as it had before.

So my current plan in the immediate short term is to leave things be. If I really need to edit video or play TS2020 64-bit, I can just boot from the hard drive. I will attempt a fresh out-of-the-box factory install of the SSD from it's backup partition at some point in the future. That should fix things for me...I hope!
