Engineers unless at restricted speed aren't just staring at the rails. We look for landmarks to adjust our train handling to, as our primary job is controlling slack action and speed.

However in a game such as this, where the physics on a huge majority of the stock reflects nothing of real life, and the fact slack doesn't exist on a manor that really penalizes you, who cares. In TS I would find myself bored and looking around more than paying attention to the task at hand. Just like being a conductor, lol.

@GSkid: however much your engineer was focused in RL, I am constantly looking around in the sim, both in the cab and at the scenery, and being able to do so in a natural fashion is incredibly immersive and adds to both the enjoyment and the operation of the sim, far more than using the Raildriver, which is far from realistic. I have used both, with the third party TrackIR hook, which was a pain to use. Native support is much appreciated. And I don't even use Raildriver anymore.

I don't really understand the attitude that is dismissive of any new support if it is not the support preferred by a given user. I won't complain when and if they finally add Raildriver support.

My complaint wasn't about them adding the support, it was merely the priorities of doing so. It goes to the heart of a few questions...

1: In the rail sim community... do more people own a Raildriver or TrackIR?

2: If the rail sim community is given a choice of either Raildriver or TrackIR support..... which would they choose?

IMHO the answer would likely be Raildriver. Over at trainsim there was a rumor that PI was discontinuing Raildriver cuz it was very hard to find. Someone called PI to verify and found out that Christmas sales had cleaned them out and a lot of their resellers. They just need to make more. Not too shabby for a $200 device. So the demand and user base is certainly there. Even amongst the flight sim crowd I'm willing to bet more own and would prioritize yoke support over TrackIR support. That's all I was pointing out...priorities.

To mojo12012...

Thanks! I was unaware of that. Gonna try it. At quick glance it appears USB port idling may be one of the issues and can be disabled to address the throttle drop issue.

To BNSFdude...

That was just my experience on the rides I had. Whether it was looking down the rails, for landmarks or at the controls... he was looking forward most of the time and not too often to the side. Half my rides were freight (with a conductor in the cab) and half were in commuter trains (no conductor in the cab). My last cab ride was spring 2001. When 9/11 happened, my friends couldn't let me on and I've never asked since.

I used Track IR on FS9 and FSX, and got sick of it and haven't used it since. I can see no practical reason to use it in TS2015 or any other train sim. Now if they could get Raildriver going, that would be a positive step for many people.

TrackIR makes Railworks a better experience, the 3rd party software has problem keeping up with the DTG updates.

If you fly combat flighsims TrackIR is a must.

Actually, I'm 99% certain that TrackIR would be the priority in the flight sim community over a yoke, but then, of course, there's no difference between supporting a yoke and a joystick, and I'm sure the priority would be joystick. Still I'm also sure that more people have TrackIR than have yokes.

I'd be willing to bet more people have TrackIR (for use in other sims) than have Raildriver.

Still, the issue for me is what the support adds to the experience. Supporting Raildriver adds another contol, and we already have contol support of several kinds, so adding support for Raildriver just adds a new way to do what we can already do. Adding support for TrackIR, even though it is a mouse emulator, really adds a new feature we can't already do, and that is just look around naturally in the sim. That's added value.

I suppose for DG, it was probably about what was easiest. That's fine with me too if it gets new features into the sim.

I may be missing something, but with all the posts mentioning Raildriver support or lack of it, I can't understand why people aren't using this:

http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=361&t=139830

It answers all the problems we've had, it works and it's free. Given that the community relies on many to supply those fixes DTG can't/won't, then this one seems to be slipping under the radar. If you have a Raildriver then get hold of this. CobraOne's support via the UKTS forum is excellent.

Either way you feel about it... I think it's safe to say that had DTG not bought the Flight Simulator license, we likely wouldn't be seeing TrackIR in Railworks. I won't be getting it but good news for the guys who want it.

14 page instruction manual, editing loco files, etc.. For the average person, pretty daunting in my opinion. With the other railroad sims, you plug the Raildriver in and go.

I plead guilty. I am a rail fan not a computer geek/nerd.
