Yeah I saw that too. Like so many others I was like "What's that new icon doing there? Is that a virus or something???" !*roll-laugh*!
My only concern with upgrading, is that updates for Win 10 Home users supposedly can't be done manually... When I tried Automatic Updates in the past, once recent past, Microsoft more than once boned me with some screwy driver I didn't need in the first place. A big foulup is them including things like Nvidia drivers. **!!bang!!**

Other than that I like a lot of the new features.

Yawn, until someone tells me what it's going to do. Happy with Win7.

I have already done this. Others may also want to get rid of the icon on the taskbar. Just sayin. *!rolleyes!*

It's just an ad for Win 10. Unless you click the reserve button it serves no purpose.

It's not quite an ad. It's a chance to upgrade for free.

Based on what I'm reading online, a person may loose media player and some other things by upgrading. MS doesn't want to support those programs anymore.
Some of what we take for granted in windows, may become payware. The exact details aren't known yet.

I think there is a new web browser in Windows 10, no more IE. If you don't like the Icon I think if you uninstall update Kb 3035583 it will go. Reading on other forums, with Windows 10 games will run better.

I have never had any problems with Windows Update downloading Nvidia drivers, I just don't tick the box. They are an optional download. MS Nvidia drivers are usually a couple of versions older than what is put out by Nvidia.

I've been running the tech preview -the latest release has been very nice and seems to work well. Interface is a bit cleaned up over 7, and a lot of the horrid stylings of metro have been toned down and polished to be less intrusive.

If Win 10 has no option for manual updates I will not be updating. A number of years ago I had it set for automatic updates and ran into a major problem. I was downloading a route and did not know that windows was doing an update also. The download was stopped, explore was closed, and a reboot was started. I had to restart the download ( it was almost finished). I was lucky it was not payware, but the time wasted to redo was annoying. Also I do not want to have the computer unavailable during lengthy updates ( multiple megabytes). And of course I would not want to chance working on any files at that time. I am just fine doing this manually, even over a two day period if necessary. Never miss an important update this way.

You're missing the point Trev.
What the current info on Win 10 Home is this. Microsoft is shoving updates down your machine. No more selective updates. (Unless you upgrade to Pro)

Here's a link about this from Forbes.

Here is the info straight from Microsoft.

I'm sure the updates will not force driver updates, just core Windows 10 features and bug fixing.

Anyone know if (should you choose the free upgrade to 10) we will be able to get an ISO for the installer DVD and go the traditional install route, vs. running whatever their little update utility is going to do?

Yeah. I'm wondering if automatic updates will be forced on, but a person can still select the check boxs?

Here's a Q and A that MS has published. It's very informative and not all bad news.
For instance, a free DVD player will be available to those that want it.
Apparently MS is also offering a free version of Adobe Photoshop Express.
Windows 10 will also include Miracast. My Mom will love Miracast with her Roku 3.
