What is this device in Device Manager?

Unread postby trev123 » Sat Dec 05, 2020 5:11 pm

After about 3 months I finally got my new computer going. I was originally going to upgrade my old one but things didn't go as planned so I purchased a new one bit by bit as finances allowed. See specs in the Dxdiag file below. Anyway in device manager I have a device called TPS65988 and it has an error symbol anyone know what this is so I can fix it if it needs fixing. See screenshot below. Thanks.

Thanks, Buzz I have run that before and it says all my device drivers are up to date. That program says all my drivers are up to date.

Somewhere along the line I read that you might need to uninstall and then re-install to get it to work. I had that on a previous computer and ignored it and never could figure out what it was supposed to be doing that it didn't do. Something to do with powering a USB port. I must have never tried to use whichever one is was to run something that needed to be powered.

I did a little digging and found what it exactly is https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tps65988.pdf?ts=1607273990329&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F now since is has the yellow warning triangle you should be able to right click it and view properties and even run troubleshoot from there. It has something to do with your usb-c port. You could do the right click thing and uninstall then reboot the computer and see if it reinstalls the appropriate drivers or you may need to get the driver from Texas Instruments. This is just a suggestion and I'm not 100% sure it will correct your issue but it's what I've done in the past for similar situations.

What is the error under Properties?
Quite a few "fixes" here: https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-NU ... d-p/574519. It is apparently a faulty Windows driver causing the issue, ie not working correctly and you may need an earlier version.
Do you have a Thunderbolt3 (or USB-C) port on your new mobo?
It would be interesting to use that port to connect to a (new) monitor to see if it actually works!

Hi Peter, yes it has a Thunderbolt header on the mb and also a USB Type C connector on the back.

Thanks - I have just installed a TB PCIe card to run a FireCuda Gaming Dock and it took me about 2 weeks to stop the yellow exclamation mark on the card. Eventually, it worked on an earlier driver, and it was not easy to find a solution. I tried lots of "fixes" that failed.
Hope you get it sorted.

OK, that's a generic type error if the "driver" cannot start or load.
Any BIOS updates or other "tools" updates on the motherboard site?
Maybe ask on the mobo forums (Intel as well) to see if anyone else has the same issue?
