Win 10 troubles, again.

I wanted to undo the read only attribute in the Program files folder, and I have followed this guide to carry out the process.

The reason I wanted to undo the read only status is because I kept getting prompts saying "you'll need administrator permission to copy to this folder" when trying to save a texture for a 3d object. Essentially I was forced to save it on the desktop, and then transfer it to the folder manually, again with the admin permission prompt. I didn't find it to be very efficient admittedly.

So I searched for a solution to the read only solution, and it involved a CMD command or two, and something else. For my convenience, the website that had the tutorial is currently offline, so I can't even confirm exactly what I did (I can't remember it that vividly).

But the problem is that after doing what seems to be a straightforward process of enabling additional privileges in Win 10, I have noticed that the taskbar icons (on the right), such as networking, volume control are now not working when I click on them. It took just under 2 hours for the privileges to be applied, and now there is the added bonus of an inconvenience. I have restarted the computer, and restarted explorer to no avail. What I do noticed is that I can save textures in the folder I wish to now, but with only 80% of the Windows interface working. I can't even right click a folder on the taskbar.

Has anybody else here had this problem, and found a solution to it? I don't really want to reinstall Windows again.

Do you happen to have a "restore point" before you made the changes?
Then make the changes you want carefully.

Admittedly no. but the interim solution to the read only nightmare was to move the frequently used programs to the Documents folder, after another $100 wasted on with repairs to a preventable issue (BIOS), and without removing the read-only attribute in the C drive as I requested (may be too risky, and in hindsight not completely urgent).

So far, it hasn't given me that annoying message saying something like "You don't have permission to save to this folder, contact the admin to solve the problem, Would you like to save to the desktop instead?".

So there is a slim chance that I may be able to proceed with 3d modeling without a lot of hassles in this regard.

In short, I don't like Win 10 much, but it's a tiny bit more up to date than the XP interface, which looked Flintstones software to me last time I saw it (on a laptop).

So there's another strange problem. I am running Train Sim Modeler. When I select 'Open' (load saved project (.dst file)), I see a folder with previous saves in it.

But when I navigate to the actual location, the folder doesn't exist. When I did a search, there were no results. I have no idea why this is the case, and it is essentially like a ghost folder. It has only occurred since downgrading to Win 10.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of behaviour?

I did. It seems like they are ghost files, or something similar. It is very peculiar.

But nonetheless, I think things are more or less back in order as of yesterday. The file accessibility is no longer a problem, for now at least.

What I am referring to are files that appear when you click on 'open' in say a 3d program, and the files appear in the folder in question. But, when you navigate to the folder in question, it is empty. Hence I call them 'ghost files'.

However, once I moved the 3d models and other files that I need to access to a folder away from the C folder, the ordeal came to a silent halt, and things seem to be in order now.
