Issues after installing mwgfx.dll

Unread postby SAR704 » Mon Oct 21, 2019 10:27 am

I downloaded mwgfx.dll after noticing that it was required to use the tgpcdx/dds viewer in RW tools. I used a link I found in a random thread on the Trainsim.com forums.

After installing it, I noticed that it caused all kinds of strange issues with the PC. It did enable me to view the .tgpcdx files, but then I noticed that Paint Shop Pro X5 wouldn't start, and Irfanview just hung indefinitely, as well as random restarts of Windows Explorer (the default interface, not IE).

Shutting down the PC and restarting sort of fixed the PSP issue, but Irfanview still hung at times. I am still seeing peculiarities as a result of installing the mwgfx.dll file, and was wondering if there is either a fix that either removes the .dll file, or addresses the anomalies that are occurring on the PC.

The PC specs are in the signature below for those who are curious.

How to choose the correct version of Mwgfx.dll?

First, look through descriptions in the table above and select the proper file for your program. Pay attention to whether it’s a 64-, or 32-bit file, as well as the language it uses. For 64-bit programs, use 64-bit files if they are listed above.

It’s best to choose those dll files which language corresponds to the language of your program, if possible. We also recommend downloading the latest versions of dll files for an up-to-date functionality.

If you put it in the Windows folder, funny stuff will happen. If you put it in the RWTools folder, it should've been unaffected.

One time I completely screwed over my computer by putting zlibwapi.dll into my Windows folder. It wouldn't boot after that and I had to reinstall Windows.

Interesting. Shows how little I know about PCs compared to some. I wasn't aware of the risks associated with mishandling such a small file.
