How can I increase my RAM amounts?

Mostly I just want the game to run faster, but I think this might be causing a sound issue with the Searchlight GEVO sound pack.

How much RAM do you have now? If you don't know how to check go to computer and then click on system properties. It's the second item down.

I suggest you go to one of the companies that makes memory and see what they make that is compatible with your computer and whether they make 16gig RAM for it. Most computers will be fine with 16.

I'll check, but I have a feeling that most of that is going to be over my budget. Would removing old programs and things on my computer help?

Check and see how many programs are running in the background. RW generally doesn't use more than 4gigs however if you have a bunch of programs running in the background it's pretty easy to get up to your limit. Get free IOBIT http://www.iobit.com/en/advancedsystemcarefree.php . It has a nice little addon called system monitor. With it running you can see how much RAM is being used.

How many slots in your computer/laptop are there, you need to check first, if there are only 2 slots then you can only have 2 x 8GB RAM sticks, or, 1 x 4GB and 1 x 8GB, if you have 4 slots then it might be better to have 12 GB which is 3 x 4GB sticks, a total of 12 GB or 16 GB RAM is more than adequate to run PC games on these days, especially Railworks/Train Simulator. And the other thing is that it's always best to get the sticks from the same developer, and you'll always have to have the same DDR volume you can't mix DDR3 with DDR5, for example, there are quite a few different companies who make RAM sticks, have a good shop around to obtain the best prices, a few sticks could be 100/150 Dollars or so, and ensure that the sticks you install are from the same company, attempting to put different companies' RAM sticks into the same computer might do it some damage, there is plenty of customer advice on the internet, good luck.

Where exactly can I find these slots? Are they inside the computer?

Buzz has given you a good website page to read, if you aren't too sure how to do something on your computer, then, your best bet is to go on YouTube and watch someone change RAM sticks, or, exchange a motherboard, etc, etc, it's probably better to watch someone actually doing it and then it is a lot easier for you to do on your own computer later, there are plenty of videos you can watch, people have been doing PC tutorial videos for ages now on various technical matters.

And may I also suggest, that you buy a box of disposable gloves to wear if you are going to fiddle about in your computer, a quick bit of research says they are about 99 cents for a pack of 12 in Walmart currently, they keep your sweaty fingers off the moving parts inside your computer and make handling equipment cleaner and safer.
