Does anyone have Sony Vegas experience?

Unread postby DrewG » Tue Feb 24, 2015 5:11 pm

I'm new to using Son Vegas and trying to render a video after editing it but after I render it all horizontal movement becomes very "choppy". The original and preview doesn't have this issue, it's only after I render it.
The original video is 1920x1080 HD(although doesn't look it) 30 FPS.
I'm rendering it in 1920x1080 HD 30FPS all video quality is set to 31, prioritize quality over speed is checked, rendering quality is set to best and it's still coming up with issues.

Here is what the rendered video looks like, note that really hard to read the writing on the locomotive.

Here is the unrendered original, it's a lot better quality than the rendered one.

I'm a long time Sony Vegas Pro user (since Version 9 from 2009). I've never had this problem myself. Sounds like it's dropping transitional frames in the render output. That's always most noticeable with horizontal movement. The closest thing I ever had to your problem had to do with transitions from one clip of video to the next. It would sometimes render this weird frame stutter on screen as it went to the next clip. This was with my prior editing software...Pinnacle Studio. Turns out it was a hard drive issue. I took out my older 500GB hard drive and replaced it with two 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blacks in RAID 0 configuration for maximum speed. My output video was silky smooth after that. Not saying that's your issue though.

I can't speak on the consumer-level versions below the Pro version, since I have had no need to follow their features. But the Pro version supports not only multi-core and multi-threading....but through OpenCL it can use your GPU's cores for accelerated video processing and rendering for silky smooth output. Especially Nvidia's CUDA cores. .....I just now checked Sony's website and it shows that the GPU acceleration feature isn't a feature on those non-Pro consumer versions (they are called Sony Movie Studio).

I say go to the official Sony Vegas support forums.....

Another thing to check before rendering is to see if you are rendering it as progressive or interlaced scan. I can't quite remember how to change this setting, but it's in the screen where you choose your render options before export. It being interlaced gives it that striped look when things are moving. Progressive doesn't do that.

Edit: Whoops, didn't mean to bring up a two week old thread, if that's okay, though, hopefully this helps.

I ended up rendering it about 50 times. Using different settings like progressive, interlaced, different levels of quality, resolutions. Kept getting the same results. I ended up redoing the video and it came out alright with the same settings, I don't know why but it must have been to do with how I set up the project.
