Google Chrome

I didn't want to highjack the other thread.

Ericmopar posted this,

Google installs and leaves tons of tracking software on a person's PC

First off it is not tons, they are tiny cookies that take up no space. Do you realize when you come to this site and don't have to type your password in it's because this site put a cookie on your computer? Every browser puts cookies on your computer and if you don't like it you can set it to have them all deleted when you exit.

I think what you are referring to is advertisers seeing where you have been. I actually like the fact that it does that. I dont want to see ads on Google for stuff I don't need like pimple cream, Viagra, and penis extenders. It targets me for stuff I search for like electronics, auto parts, and anything else that I really WANT to see a sale for.

If you are REALLY worried about being tracked you better smash your cell phone right now. That is where the big brother tracking really comes in, not some advertiser trying to target you for a product you actually want.

That or you can come here in an incognito window (its in the menu) so it will not store cookies. Be warned though that if you allow any extensions to load in incognito mode you could be tracked, or it could pop its own advertisements.

For info here:

And it was recommended by someone here long ago (how I heard of it) but I will second it, Ghostery is a great extension.

I don't use Chrome for a few reasons. I don't like it's interface. I prefer Firefox's interface along with it's boatload of plugin choices. Another thing was a malmare/virus was attempted out of the blue within 10 minutes of first using it that had to be quarantined. Also...I recall it periodically and randomly opened up tabs to odd websites of subject matter that had nothing to do with my searches. Yes I was using Chrome directly downloaded from Google and no I wasn't going to porn sites with it. They were "normal" family-safe sites that I had no such issues within Explorer nor Firefox.

Needless to say... Chrome isn't ever touching another computer I own. !*not-ok*!

There is no need for that, the dern cookie saves your password so you don't have to type in in every time, another plus. !!*ok*!!

I never save passwords. Just login names. My computer has a fingerprint reader to not only login to my Windows (I use it) but you can password login to websites with it (I don't use that function). I'm more worried about my online passwords than my computer's password.

Speaking of viruses I assume you all know about the Steam virus going around being we all use Steam right? This is actually more dangerous than a web virus because you execute it thinking it is a screenshot in a message from a friend. Don't click on screenshots with a png extension and says WTF DUDE. I love AVG, one of the few that will intercept this.

If you haven't heard read this.

And don't think because you pay for antivirus you are protected. Stuff like Norton is the biggest bloatware out there. System resource hogging, non protecting, slow down my system bloatware. I'm not just blowing smoke. My third hobby is removing major malware from friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, strangers computers when the were told the only remedy was a clean install from paid professionals. They are just too lazy to take the time. All I use are the free programs out there to do it. None of this payware bloatware. You want tons of crap software installed on your computer get Norton, Chrome doesn't install software other than itself like mentioned in the Chrome installs a ton of software post.

What kind of boatload of plugins do you need that Chrome doesn't provide?

Well I don't lie to my friends. I'll visit any porn site and Chrome keeps me safer than a condom with a two dollar whore. Sorry, he said it and I'm just being honest. You guys don't have to admit it, I know what goes on, I'm a New Yorker. *!!wink!!*

I'm a Ford man too, any Chevy guys want to take me on? !*roll-laugh*! !*roll-laugh*!
