I'm a real world private and I probably have the better part of 4000 hrs with FltSim. It's one of the major reasons that I'm as competent as I am. It's not only fun but if you take it fairly seriously it's a awesome training tool.

I can attest to this. I'm a student pilot with 40 hours, waiting on only money to finish my training. I remain active in an immersive air traffic control community, and I learn something new everyday. If used correctly, it's as good of an aviation educator as there is.

Thanks for your generous help in PMs to me on finding good scenery and add-ons. I knew FSX had a lot of 3rd party support, but I guess I wasn't quite prepared for the sheer amount of it and such high quality of content. !*drool*!

Ya know.... I wish the train sim world had that same level of high quality content and variety of it. MSTS is the closest we come to it, but FSX is a whole different level. Part of the reason is that planes are liked by a bigger segment of the population than trains. So there is a bigger market and this attracts more talent. Another thing is that FSX has a newer and better graphics engine than MSTS. This allows for better looking content with better animations.

I was always under the impression that X Plane 10 was the most realistic of the big sims out there from an operational and physics point of view. But I saw a user video demo of the PMDG 737 you mentioned to me and he was punching all kinds of stuff into flight computers and every switch in the cockpit functioned. So maybe it is up there with X Plane.

I know I tried the X Plane 10 demo and it holds the biggest RAM memory usage record for a game for me at 6.5GB at max settings (including the OS). Only a large, opened HD video editing file beats it for me.

I look forward to DTG's new flight-sim in the future. But they had better be on their A-game. Cuz I'm gonna guess that the flight-sim crowd are waaaay bigger rivet counters than us over here in the Railworks crowd. And if they release that stuff with the same level and frequency of flaws that we encounter here in the Railworks world..... let's just say I'm guessing we are gonna look like puppy dogs in comparison. !**duh*!!

I still have my old analogue flightyoke and pedals from CH Products, which cost me an arm and a leg back then, being direct USA imports.

However, none of my gaming rigs has the analogue game port anymore.

Does anybody know about a good gameport-USB converter?

It's the same thing as original FSX. If you have the boxed version of FSX, don't buy this. In addition to absolutely no changes in the code or product, many addons are not supported, including the gateway to addon products, FSUIPC. Existing multiplayer servers run through the "direct connect LAN" option are not accessible from this "new" product.

If you never had FSX, that's another story. The boxed version is becoming rare, selling for hundreds of dollars on Ebay. The Steam version is now the only one you can practically get.

There have indeed been changes, and not only to MP, which has been fixed and enhanced. since existing servers were a complicated workaround after MS pulled Gamespy support They use VS2013 for better optimization, but with VS2005 libraries for compatibility, as noted in the change log. Pete will fix FSUIPC to work with the new version of simconnect after the holidays.

The big sale is over, but it's still discounted and worth getting even for those who have the original, as I do, if you have any interest in MP, as I do.

Frame rates on new CPUs with no addons will be very good (around 100 FPS) with good to high settings, and still good (30s) with complex scenery and aircraft like Orbx and A2A.

Steve's DX10 fixer works and does some very nice things, like adding cockpit shadows, which as a real world pilot, I find adds a lot of realism to the experience.

I have an old analog Logitech Wingman Formula (Yellow) steering wheel. It comes with a simple gameport-USB adapter and WIndows 7 sees it as a USB device.
Actually this was a huge surprise for me. I had read several complicated procedures to make this steering wheel work, involving registry edits and downloading all kinds of drivers and utilities. So I sat down expecting to spend hours installing it. I plugged the wheel in an USB port, Windows 7 said it had found a new Logitech Wingman Formula (Yellow) steering wheel (there was even a little picture of it with the yellow wheel), then it said drivers were installed and device is working correctly. And that was it. Five minutes later I was terrorizing motorists and pedestrians in Construction Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator.

Thanks, Marc. I just ordered the adapter.
According to this Dutch webstore, CH Products also sells Rail Drivers: http://www.consoleshop.nl/category/182485/ch-products.htm

Hopefully you have better luck than a lot of the user reviewers have had in getting it to work with their controllers. For the price, I guess it's worth a try considering your options aren't very good.

if anyone is interested, Pete Downson, the developed of FSUIPC has released a beta version that is compatible with FSX:SE.

You are right, it seems either the yoke or the pedals work on one adaptor, but apparently not both together according to some reviews off the Amazon pages links.
They used to work together on the old computer's game port, even when I had a MIDI extension box connected as well.

My yoke and pedals are like 25+ years old by now, and perhaps the potentiometers have gone bad.
So if I need to replace them due to incompatibility, is the Saitek range a better option?

The new Saitek pedals are good, but the new HOTAS (X-55) is pretty worthless. Terrible button placement, you have to strain your hand to reach some of the buttons or functions.
