It really does depend on the route your using, my new computer has an AMD FX8350 @4.0ghz, 16gb of ram, and a GTX770. On older routes like Cajon Pass I can get 100-150 frames easy, newer ones like NY-NH I get 25-50. My settings are everything maxed out with Anti-aliasing turn down a couple levels.

So do you see any difference between 100 fps and 30 fps? I understand we can't see any difference with out eyes.

Personally yes there is a noticeable difference, not much, but I can see a difference.

The idea Buzz, is to get those FPS at the monitor refresh rate or higher 60FPS usually, and then turn on the Adaptive AA, to smooth things out.

I'd say 30fps minimum (same rate as traditional legacy videos) is the base you should shoot for..... a 60fps base is ideal. Anything higher is gravy.

If you can get 60fps consistent on the most taxing route with an 8000ft train at max settings and 1920 x 1080 res, you would be pretty much set. I'm asking.... has anybody accomplished that with those parameters? Taxing routes like Stevens Pass, Pacific Surfliner or New Haven route? !**conf**!

I'm with the OP on this issue. On my American computer, most scenarios run at an average of 10-20 fps at graphics settings that provide a very good visual and aural experience. My Italian computer has less pep and runs at slightly lower fps, but without the graphics and sound "problems" so often moaned about here. What exactly do you mean by "immersion", Buzz? My full surround speaker system provides 360 degree sound, but lacking a 360-degree monitor I'm always aware that I'm sitting in front of a monitor and I couldn't call that "immersion" (actually, a full sphere would be necessary: there's probably someone working on that) regardless of the fps rate. I think that the path to satisfaction with TS comes through fine-tuning the settings rather than constantly emptying my wallet for hardware additions.

I'm not the immersion poster. I always use headphones Full sound there and no wife complaining.
