Just an aside, my computer is set up with the AHCI enabled. However Samsung provides a little utility called the Samsung Magician which was installed along with the 850 so it might have changed it at that time. I never looked previously. Very not uber geekish. *!greengrin!*

SSD's aren't as S.M.A.R.T. as IDE/SATA harddiscs. I've had two SSD die on me without warning. Apparently the data is still contained in the memory chips, it is the controller chips that fail after so many billion cycles. Data can be recovered, but this is a very expensive procedure.

Make daily automatic backups to a harddisc still fixed in your computer, esp. if you develop/create content using the SSD.

That Samsung magician was important when SSDs first came out, but now the built in software takes care of everything as long as a person has Windows 7 or 8.
Also the Intel Rapid Storage Technology adds on to that, taking care of things like mixed drives on the same PC.
Even as I was typing this, I was doing a current Railworks folder backup from one SSD to another SSD. A 20GB copy only took about 2.5mins.
It took about 15mins when I made the same backup to a HDD a few minutes ago. *!greengrin!*

PS. Buzz that AHCI setting is in the BIOS, so your PC must have been that way for some time. Have fun.
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.
Slick with Pretty Rainbow Colors.
