Are you sure you completely wiped the hard disk? If not the virus could still be on your computer. If it's not a virus then it's a serious hardware failure.

That sounds similar to this virus: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=10088. How many people use this laptop? And how many run it signed in with administrator rights? Kinda seems to me like someone is going to the wrong kinda websites and downloading stuff (or stuff is downloading itself) to that laptop. I don't know what a "reset" is, but if you have a serious virus infection, and some of those are in the root of the drive where regular anti virus can't get at them, you may have to format the drive completely and reinstall Windows, like I said before. Whether you like it or not.

Or buy another internal hard drive, take existing one out, reinstall Windows, then put the old drive into a USB dock so you can take info off of it, after scanning it with anti virus so as not to get reinfected. You need to realize, virus' are not just ad popups, they can be very evil and do serious damage to your PC, with no other purpose than to hurt you for no real reason. These people are criminals that don't care.

Here's how to do a boot time scan with Avast! http://www.getavast.net/boot-time-scan Try that before you reinstall Railworks or anything else.

That Virus is a Ransomware. I've had that one multiple times and it's never wiped my hard drive. (It gets in through Flash & Java Exploits.)

Owen (NS9030) had to wipe his hard drive to get rid of it and I'm not sure if that even helped.

For windows 8, when automatic repair on start up doesn't not work it gives you an option to turn off, continue to windows,or troubleshoot , when you click on troubleshoot you can either refresh your pc(which restores pc to factory state but doesn't delete files) or Reset your PC (which restores to factory state also but also deletes all files completely *!sad!* ) which is what i did.. Or you can go to advanced options where you can system restore, system image recovery image, do an automatic repair which windows does on startup anyway, use command prompt for advanced troubleshooting, which i have no knowledge of !**duh*!! , or chnage the startup settings which did not work either. I do not know why im telling you this when you have 100% more knowledge of computers than me, but there is a (Reset pc) option in windows 8 so im not making that up.

OK, I've never heard of some of those options, they could be exclusive to Win 8 or they could be options added to the BIOS by the maker of the laptop, too. So did Reset uninstall Windows, or just all the files that were added after you received the laptop? And did everyone using the laptop re-do all their passwords and log in's? And what about how many have admin rights?
