That sounds similar to this virus:
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=10088. How many people use this laptop? And how many run it signed in with administrator rights? Kinda seems to me like someone is going to the wrong kinda websites and downloading stuff (or stuff is downloading itself) to that laptop. I don't know what a "reset" is, but if you have a serious virus infection, and some of those are in the root of the drive where regular anti virus can't get at them, you may have to format the drive completely and reinstall Windows, like I said before. Whether you like it or not.
Or buy another internal hard drive, take existing one out, reinstall Windows, then put the old drive into a USB dock so you can take info off of it, after scanning it with anti virus so as not to get reinfected. You need to realize, virus' are not just ad popups, they can be very evil and do serious damage to your PC, with no other purpose than to hurt you for no real reason. These people are criminals that don't care.
