FEC Mainline

Unread postby jonmorrie » Sat May 25, 2013 9:10 pm

Some of you may recall a post I made back in the later winter months about building a route in Florida. And after months of learning, practicing using the route builder, and railfanning, I think it's time to officially announce the beginning of the FEC Mainline! This will be the south portion of the route, starting in Hialeah Yard. I don't know how far north I want to go, but the yard in Port St. Lucie is pretty attractive... that's about 100 miles north of Hialeah. Anyway, here are some preliminary pictures of about an hour of work.

Another little update. I should finish the yard tonight, and hopefully I can lay some mainline track tomorrow.

The two major yards I want to construct are Hialeah Yard and Ft. Pierce yard. Those are approximately 125 miles apart. But I'm going to build as I go, as opposed to throwing down all 125 miles of track at once.

Yes and yes... it's Florida... the terrain isn't really visible so that's why it appears that way.

Well, not unexpectedly, but I think I'm gonna try to re-track the whole yard. My switches are sloppy, and I may or may not have failed at extracting terrain... *!embar*! Didn't know "T" doesn't work anymore, I just figured everything was flat !*don-know!* . It's not the end of the world, and I actually really enjoy the laying of the track. The ambition is strong in this one :D

I already set up the coordinates in RWTools, I just need to import the terrain. Is there a way to do it without ReDem?

I would pay for a comprehensive guide to route building similar to the one produced for MSTS. There have been great helps on this site, but they're not put together in a concise, searchable guide.

I agree, finding the information I have has taken countless hours just to find. I still am winging it in certain aspects.

Alrighty, well I'm stuck. I have ~300 .hgt files in the \DEM\SRTM folder, and the import button does nothing. I've been trying for hours now! What to do???? !*hp*!

Alrighty, I appreciate your help. I'll try a bit later, as I don't have my RW computer accessible, but do you think it's logical to import terrain for a South Florida route? I feel as if there will be tons of unnecessary hills because of the inaccuracy of the terrain info...
