[WIP] NKP S-2 Berkshire Sound Revamp

Unread postby CanadianSteam » Mon Apr 15, 2013 4:19 pm

Hi guys! So this started off as just a personal project but I've been spending more time on it than I thought I would originally, thus, I have decided that once completed I will release it! The aim of this sound modification is to replace nearly if not all the sounds on the G-Trax Berkshire locomotives. To me having good sounds is as important as having a good model, but I personally if faced with a choice would take the former as opposed to the latter!

Now, this is my first serious attempt at a major sound modification. My locomotives (steam and diesel alike) have an array of scattered horns and bells that adorn my hard drive in every nook and cranny! *!!wink!!* Any feedback is more than welcome and I will continue to tinker until I've come up with a masterpiece! :D

CS

Buzz has helped me borrow the RSC PRR K4 "chuffing" sound and install it in the G-TraX Berkshire. A great improvement, IMHO.

oh is thats what it was? lol, I honestly didn't know that the chuffing sound was changed. I couldn't tell the difference between the k4 and the nkp !*roll-laugh*!

I was gonna say something bout the bell, but when I check the "actual" berkshire from the real world on youtube. They both sound the same soo I'll give that a !!*ok*!!. Lookingforward to download.

Not to be a smart **$ but if you couldn't tell the difference you are tone deaf and won't be able to tell the difference when he gets done.

Awesome! I agree about having good sounds and a good model. (The Big Boy V2 has terrible sounds) I tried to make a whistle, but couldn't get the loop right. Did you record the sounds from this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjEzExukNMs

Not only Big Boy, the Sp 4449 (gs-4) bell and whistle sounds bad. The chuff sounds doesn't matter to me. I'm looking for nice real sound from a real steam engines. NKP is the first one I'm impressed with. The Big boy and Challenger Whistles both sounds good. Just like the real thing.

As someone that has been known to blow a Hancock 3 chime from time to time, I will disagree with you on that one.

Here's a suggestion. Add reverb to all the sound files. This boost the distance to how far the sounds can be heard and also makes the sounds echo. I found these video demonstrations on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ0OFYR ... vQ&index=4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0EnTO0p5Bc

Thanks for all the good feed back guys! Yes Railfan587 I surely did! I take no credit for recording the original video, and I will be requesting permission from the person who originally recorded the video before releasing the pack to the community. While I know some people would just release it anyway, because it will be freeware, I still want to have all my bases covered :D

Now for those asking if I plan on doing the other G-Trax locomotives, or any other for that matter, the answer is yes. This is however, provided I have the time to do so (life has a strange tendency of throwing curveballs squarely at my face!). I have plenty of projects I'd like to undertake, albeit 95% Canadian content between 1935 and 1980 *!!wink!!* Regardless, if the time comes when I can take requests for certain things then I will sure everyone knows. Also, in case anyone is wondering, all of my projects (be it sounds, models, repaints, whatever) will be entirely freeware!

More updates to come!

Actually, the medium and high speed on all the G-TraXs steamers are from SP&S 700. I recently watched a video called SP&S Homecoming Excursion, and the sound at two of scenes were exactly the same as the ones on the G-TraXs steamers.
