MadMike

I appears we are going to have a collection of Eastern US Name Train Sets before too long. This is fantastic news for the B&O fans out there. Thanks a heap.

I really appreciate all the great reskins. They really add a lot to our operations. One thing I hope for is to see a complete fleet of reskins in a particular roadname for scenarios. For example, we need a good selection of freight and passenger reskins to go with the B&O passenger train. Many of us are willing to help supply data and even do some simple lettering jobs. I for example can deal with roadnames and heralds all day long, but I am very weak at creating the striping that many of the early units featured. I would certainly be willing to help with a B&O fleet at any time.

Careful there... You may be asking for far more work than you think. !*roll-laugh*!

Trucks need work, and the side handrail details... nearly done.

B & O bought the F3s as A-B pairs, and considered them as one engine, so only the A was numbered. As usual, there is an A with no crew.

Are you thinking of replacing the blue-tinted photoreal texture by a hand-made one?

I have two really nice photo textures I use, but both are somewhat weathered and ugly.

I'm going to try to desaturate the stock ones and make them black with a little texture.

I think that's close, what do you think?

They're all better IMHO than the original ones (first post for this thread) which had a bluish tint and too much brightness, that didn't fit with the rest of the model.
Your last ones are good for brand-new engines. I must say I like the weathered ones a lot. The SP ones are fantastic!

It takes nearly as long to do a set of the trucks as it does to do the rest of the model! !*roll-laugh*!

I'm always hunting for more straight on photos of the Blombergs, both the B and the A-1-A triple.

I need some help with the research... car names and numbers specifically. As always model limitations will affect the final result.

MadMike

I found this interesting bit of trivia.

"After the C&O took control of the B&O in 1962 it combined the B&O’s "National Limited", which ran to Chicago, and the C&O's "George Washington" at Cincinnati. The two trains then ran in tandem from there to Chicago and vice-versa as far south as Cincinnati, where they split and continued on their different routings as separate trains. This combination setup between the National and George lasted until the end when Amtrak took over intercity passenger rail operations on May 1, 1971. Today, you can still ride virtually the same route as the original George Washington from New York to Chicago under Amtrak’s "Cardinal".

So, in reality, seeing both B&O and C&O LtWt passenger equipment in the same consist will be quite prototypical.

Thank you *!!thnx!!* this makes it a lot easier for me.

So the Columbian was a day train. The Capitol Limited was an overnight from DC to Chicago (I rode the Amtrak version) and it did have sleepers.

I'll make a full set with sleepers and all the names available so you can set up whatever you'd like.
